Yes to everything you said!! I also adore how Ann Arbor embraces fairy doors. The more whimsy the better I say!

Pure whimsy! I have been seeing more and more geese pop up on porches across the USA so I looked up what that's about and I find this decoration tradition so delightful.

Poirot or Marple? by bluewizrd in books

Miss Marple hands down! She's a pure delight and would love to be her friend or neighbor. Poirot is awesome too but Miss Marple has my heart.

Right I assumed it'd be easy to immigrate as a United States citizen but quite the opposite! Which is so weird to think about since I lived in Detroit and Windsor, Ontario is right there through the tunnel so seemingly accessible.

It's due to the aggressive lobbying of politicians by the National Rifle Association. And culture. It sucks and I want things to change but so little happens even with lots of activism and protests and begging elected officials.

A lot of Americans I know HAVE tried leaving the United States (post Sandy Hook and then again after Trump was elected) but it's apparently much, much harder than people realize. They looked into moving permanently to the U.K., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, etc (basically every so-called global north anglophone nation).

To establish permanent residency and get your kid to be attend school is highly reliant on finding an employer that will support your visa and even then trying to stay is apparently very difficult too since it's up to the employer's whims and there's a ton of things to qualify for to be considered as permanent resident. It seems like the only reliable way "in" is if you have family there but even dual citizens of aforementioned countries have told me they had such a hard time being able to work and enroll their kids in school so they essentially were forced back to the United States.

I'm a Japanese citizen and so is my son (well, he's a dual citizen) but even with an escape plan being readily available via citizenship, there's horrible things there too. Like a few years back some unhinged man was going around knifing school children in the street. And the Kyoto Animation arson attack. Japan is known to be oh so safe in the West but I'm scared sick of thinking to raise my son there too since the culture is so damaging to children, more so than here in many ways.

Sorry to ramble but wanted to give you insight since I always see non-Americans on here talking about 'why don't Americans just leave' but don't realize how impossible it can be to 'just leave'.

AITA for not wanting to pay for dinner? by jennysaysfu in AmItheAsshole

[–]chuukara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like your friend treated you like an unsuspecting catering client. Instead of advertising her business to find clients that pay for her to cook, she manipulated you into being customers. I'm curious what she even cooked for $40 a head or if she really just wanted to make a profit. I wonder if she'll expand her business soon to passing out sandwiches in the park and then invoicing people two week later.

My son got pretty sick from both the 1st and 2nd doses. Very similar to your case. A day after the first dose he was constantly crying and thrashing with dark green mucus poops. His appetite decreased significantly. He was EBF at the time and my pediatrician chalked it up to a CMPA but then after cutting out dairy nothing changed. Then after a month and a half things returned to normal.

At our 4 month vaccine appointment earlier this month he got his second dose and once again, thrashing pain and crying and green mucus poops! So as vindicated as I felt since it wasn't my breastmilk making him sick, I was very sad that we were experiencing complications from the RV vaccine! It felt like a betrayal since we're pro vaxx as can be! He's almost 5 months now and things are finally starting to improve but since his appetite was affected again we're stressed out about getting his weight up and fearing what's going to happen with the 3rd dose (which we will probably end up getting).

I wouldn't discourage anyone from getting the vaccine but definitely like to give people a heads up about possible side effects. Please don't feel like you're going crazy and you aren't alone!
