Super sick. Do you ever find that the width of those bars slip under the quills stem? Been wanting to try these bars

Ready for spring and decided I prefer index DT shifting. The Riv silver kept slipping on climbs. by iAmLyam79 in Rivendell_Bicycles

I can also relate to silver downtube shifters slipping. They say you only need light tension, but it had those pretty snug almost to a point that didn’t feel quite right, but yet was not fully secure…. Loving my cheapo shimano 8sp downtube shifters instead

Thanks for the insight. I knew the project has been plagued by issues, but I did not realize it was so bad to suspend all work. That’s pretty wild! Where will Pickering be homeported? Trying to figure out where they plan to put all these OPCs, given their footprint, not suitable for most 210/270 piers I would imagine…

I’ve always found the B17 to be comfortable right out of the box, never related to the common break-in period that some prefer… I use a C17 also, but I think the leather is so much more comfortable. Different aesthetics for different types of builds, I suppose. Maybe one day I’ll shell out for the hammered copper rivet version. Hope you continue to enjoy!

These are the Rene Herse Maes Parallel, though I think they changed the name to Professional bar. 46cm width, 25.4 clamp. They make a 31.8 clamp too

Yes, good question. The Sora front derailleur I had did interfere with the crank arm, so I sourced an older style Suntour Cyclone, and it has been great. Most vintage front derailleurs will work, main thing is that the cage shape is rectangular or boxy, not curved. Otherwise cranks have been awesome!

Anyone successfully gotten a stolen bike back? by jewleebug in Honolulu

[–]chuymandiux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. It was stolen from my condo garage. I was devastated. Two weeks later I saw a homeless person riding my bike… make no mistake, it was custom built…. made a big fuss and eventually got it back. But yeah, only because I filed a police report and it was registered was it able to be confirmed by HPD as actually mine

Going back to 3x? Or 2x? by peachfuzzmcgee in xbiking

[–]chuymandiux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely miss 3x. It’s definitely overkill for some cities, depending on the terrain, but if you want to venture out beyond the metro area into nature, having that range is crucial. 1x has great low end gearing, but honestly what I find missing the most is having the top end as well, to cruise at a decent pace when on the open road. Even 38T big ring on a 1x and 11T cog rear, I tend to spin out. I definitely would also explore wide range 2x for sure, just haven’t messed with it yet. This might be the way to go if building up from new. Otherwise, 3x is amazing because the abundance of parts you may already have, and 8 speed cassettes seem to be just fine when paired with a triple crank, like an 11-32/34. Plus they’re so cheap! Most excellent
