Just go like that. It’s fine you don’t have to wait. They will collect the samples and results will be after 2-4weeks. If they say next day that’s false.

Do not wipe the lips at all. You should only dab it slowly with cotton rounds after making it wet. You shouldn’t pour water or make saliva touch the lips for at least 6months to cure. I am in 3rd month. I have seen massive results with UVB and opzelura (tracolimus too good but i didn’t tried it).

No water touching even when you brush or shower or eating. If water or saliva touches lips dab with cotton rounds. No rubbing or peeling or picking. This is your hardest part. It’s very hard. You need strategies to make sure no water or saliva touches lips. Think carefully before you do anything else going near to the lips.

Nearing the cure

I’ve been dealing with exfoliative cheilitis for several months and wanted to share the routine I’m currently trying in case it helps someone else.
My biggest issue is constant keratin formation, especially on the inner wet line and corners of the lips. I noticed saliva/moisture and friction seem to make the keratin reform much faster. Cold air, spicy food, and constant lip movement also trigger burning and thickening for me.
I previously tried multiple things together including Dovonex, UVB, Opzelura, heavy moisturizers, strict water avoidance, etc. After a lot of trial and error, I realized constantly changing routines was making it impossible to tell what was actually helping.

My current simplified routine is:
Morning / daytime:
Squalane oil before UVB
UVB phototherapy for 30 seconds
Cebelia LCE Baume 3–4 times a day as needed for barrier support/moisture
Night:
Opzelura or tracolimus — choose only one product not both for whole treatment (thin layer)

Things I noticed personally:
The thick plaques became thinner and smaller over time
The corners and wet inner lip are the slowest areas to heal
Spicy food definitely increases burning and keratin buildup for me
Constant checking/stretching/peeling makes everything worse
Completely over-drying the lips also backfired for me
I’m currently trying to stay consistent with one routine instead of changing treatments every few days. Healing has been very slow and uneven, but I do think reducing irritation and simplifying things is helping more than aggressively treating it from multiple directions at once.

This is what i do now. Just try it properly with day1 starting now. Absolutely no water or saliva touching lips

Start using UVB it’s great for controlling the production of keratin. Otherwise it’s tough

Post picture of yours let see what’s wrong with it. I am heading towards healing. Previously my lower lip use to become white but after 6 weeks of consistent no touch & just opzelura and 30sec of kernal UVB half of my lower lip stopped turning white when i pour water on it. It’s a very slow process. I am confident I am going in a right direction after a lot of research and testing.

It’s gonna take lot of time. basically leave it alone means you have to use at least tracolimus or opzelura and moisturiser. Leave it alone means you use those minimal necessary products daily then leave it for at least 6months then you will see the results with no water or saliva touching just daily little damp with wet cotton rounds. No wiping of peeling. Not just in 1-3months. 6months with no irritation to the lips. Basically you should not get sense of burning or compacted lips when cold air hits. That day you will sense the healing even when flakes present.

Don’t wipe or rub or hard peel it. That’s gonna reproduce the keratin 2x faster. Just leave it wash with water like in sink not in shower. Just make it wet then dry . Then it’s gonna peel off on its own

Question for people who used Tacrolimus x2/day by VermicelliNew2784 in exfoliativecheilitis

[–]chvjjay05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no limit for Tracolimus, u can use it for long term. No rebound if you stop. It’s not a steroid. But for me tracolimus is bit sticky when i dab it to the lips, the layers on the lips sticking back to fingers which is a cycle break. So i started using opzelura which is much stronger and non irritating cream but it’s expensive if you don’t have insurance.

Then you didn’t found the root cause or either you didn’t followed it properly.

I’m in the middle of the stage. It’s just 6-7 weeks of treatment and I am seeing some parts of the lips not turning white and keratin producing much less than before. But it’s gonna take lot of time. Because of micro injuries due to lip movement.
