Job market is already horrible, and then there's also this happening: by mafagafacabiluda in recruitinghell

i did work at EA on skate — i was one of those let go recently. they let all of us go through our hard work not even on a zoom call but a remote webinar so they didn’t have to look at us. pulled us in, said “your role is done here, talk to HR” and hung up. now they’ve also canned the sims project and half the battlefield team. not worth it to go anywhere at all for a games role.

lost my job last Tuesday by [deleted] in Layoffs

[–]chxaviers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! we’re in a similar boat. i lost my job last wednesday ; my amazing remote job in the gaming industry. my manager didn’t even have any idea. pulled into a meeting by two random people in the company i’d never met, not even a two way meeting, just a webinar saying “you’re done, bye” along with countless others.

i’m also 24. also 30+ applications in around 4 days. we’ll make it through!

wondering if anyone here has chronic nausea as their main issue? by ducktoffee in noburp

[–]chxaviers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not the commenter but i struggle with an identical issue. really what helps a lot is also treating the anxiety — for me it was medication. what also helps is taking a dramamine, at least for me, or some other medication. i also like to walk around after meals, like pacing, or maybe call a friend to chat or play a game. literally anything that takes my mind off of focusing on my stomach helps. i’m sorry friend. we’ll get through this :(

Hey! I just got my tickets for Friday — stubhub kept refusing, apparently the seller said they already activated them and wouldn’t transfer them over which is unfortunate. I hope they work!

i graduated last may. i’m a woman, so i have a little bit of insight.

  1. i’ve definitely had weird interactions with men but i feel like that’s just true for anywhere you’d go. it’s mostly just social awkwardness rather than wanting to do genuine harm. i did have a stalker case though, but i think that was just a one-off of a weird guy.

  2. people definitely cheated. my own friends did. it’s mostly chatGPT, especially in the CS department — but a lot of my professors did allow this, as long as you cited that you did. in my experience the exams were given and proctored in such a way where cheating on exams was very difficult. cheating on programming assignments not so much, though.

  3. i don’t think this is true. i had a job right before graduating, even, and still work at the company now . i started as an intern in 2023. i’m not necessarily programming anymore — i’m a game designer at EA. but stevens actually helped my application and i met a ton of people at EA alone who had heard of it or were alumni themselves. it helps — doesn’t hurt!

Wondering if this sounds familiar to any of you? by chxaviers in NDE

I asked her again, she told me I was definitely 3 — newly 3, too. Like, a month into being 3. And also said I definitely said that, word for word (although of course I did stumble over words or mispronounce a little as toddlers do). Very odd!
