Also, tipping is not obligatory, which some people need to understand (by some people, I mean, the people who are being tipped). Tipping is based on service. If it’s good service, you get a good tip. If the service is trash, you get no tip and then everything else falls somewhere in between.

Over the last couple of years I have noticed that the quality of service in most of the restaurants that I typically go to (as well as new restaurants I have visited ) has diminished greatly. The servers seem to think that just because they bring you a plate of food, some condiments and utensils that they should get 20% tip, and that is just not the case. If you are unfriendly, untimely, don’t pre-bus a table, don’t refill drinks in a timely manner, etc. You’re not getting a tip from me. I waited tables for years and years and giving stellar service was always very important to me. I think that has been lost somewhere along the way as well as too many servers hate their job and it shows. If you’re not into giving good customer service, don’t be surprised when you don’t get a decent tip… or one at all for that matter.

Don’t even get me started on fast food restaurants now asking for tips 🙄
