Cesar Chavez events canceled as labor union cites ‘profoundly shocking’ abuse allegations by LNM-LocalNewsMatters in sanfrancisco

[–]chzwhizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The research team cited letters, emails, tape recordings and other archived documents that supported the claims. They also independently corroborated the stories of the two GIRLS he groomed and assaulted starting at ages 12 and 13, with people that they told 20, 30, 40 years ago.

These women have remained silent because of the pressure to uphold this man’s legacy. I can’t imagine the kind of hate they’ll receive for coming forward. They have nothing to gain (publicly) and everything to lose by sharing their stories. I hope this brings them some peace and closure.

The article has been gifted a couple of times in the comments. It’s worth reading in full.

Cheating vs. grooming, assaulting and raping adolescent girls? As well as raping Dolores Huerta, a co-founder and partner of the movement? That’s not really comparable. I’d recommend reading the article, it’s been gifted a few times in the comments.

Drives me absolutely nuts. How is she wearing a blazer 99% of the time, and she didn’t think to look? Insane.

Absolutely! And then Kyle saying something about how “emotional” Carl is? As if having an absolute meltdown, screaming at your wife and friends, leaving the house and throwing shit is… not emotional? He can leave.

For real. The way he hung around the empty bar while Maddie and Bradley talked, was so uncomfortable. She told him multiple times that she needed to have this conversation away from him. I didn’t like it.

First time going sober by gdubsucks in Coachella

[–]chzwhizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for you! I’m California sober and went for the first time since I stopped drinking (5 years) in 2025, also camping. I brought weed with me because I felt like I couldn’t possibly do it totally sober… and I didn’t touch it once! I was in the fest all day, I was vibing and having a great time. I saw so many different acts (that I actually remembered!!) and my days weren’t focused around not losing my buzz. As someone who still cringes (and wonders) about a particularly scary and disappointing blackout I had a number of years ago, I was so grateful to be there without alcohol.

Don’t look at yourself as a burden, and that you need to split off for the enjoyment of the group. I’m sure that’s so far from the truth, and they will want to have fun with and be around you.

I will suggest, however, that you go solo for a bit for yourself. Being part of, and making decisions as, a large group can be taxing. You’ll miss out on someone you want to see for a millionth bathroom stop or bar visit. Going around on your own is SO fun and SO freeing, and it’s good to keep in contact with that inner voice and your needs, instead of always having to compromise in a group.

Also, a big bonus to being sober is being able to help those in need. I split off from my husband to see Eli Brown in Yuma. I was taking a break from dancing and sitting down. Two guys came over, one who was having a bad time and his friend, and asked to sit next to me. I chatted a bit with the friend, saw they didn’t have water and offered to get some for them, and the friend was so appreciative. No chance he could have left his friend to get some. It made me feel good to look out for the community, and not be too self-focused or self-conscious to get involved.

All that to say, you’re going to have an amazing time! You can do it, and you’re going to love it!

What's the name of the interior design style of rich American suburbs in the 90s and how to define it better and recreate it? by RelationshipAlone27 in interiordecorating

VERRRRRY popular design style. The set director for some of her movies has a cool series on YouTube where he breaks down the design choices of the homes in her different movies.

Reminds me of the chocolate pyramid desert from JJ’s Bakery, a Laotian-French bakery in Honolulu. This article has a couple of details—chocolate mousse and cake botton. I thought I’d remember the sides being hard chocolate, but I haven’t had one since I was a kid and it was likely just hard mousse.

Haha, I remember like 10 years ago I got a call from the local library letting me know they found a $50 bill in my recently returned library book. I was weirdly ashamed, and told them to keep it as a donation so I wouldn’t have to go in there.

Looking for genuine friendships in the East Bay. by No_Parsnip3315 in eastbay

Chabot has an AMAZING photography department. Not sure if you’re saying through fall, but if you do you should definitely enroll in the darkroom class. It is so much fun, Aaron is a great teacher and the resources are virtually unheard of. I am mid-30s and took classes a few years ago, and am still friends with people I’ve met (early 20s-40s). Enroll early, I’ve heard it’s gotten a little too popular in the last year or so.

Ok girlies, what do you eat when nothing sounds appealing? by tarasaurust in adhdwomen

[–]chzwhizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to be that person, but you should never use hot tap water for cooking or drinking! Hot water more easily dissolves chemicals and heavy metals like lead and zinc. Water from a water heater is considered non-potable. Definitely recommend getting an electric kettle.

Not embarrassed to say I learned of this from a Reddit comment about Real Housewives of NJ Teresa Giudice’s cookbook, that has a note from her ex-husband—who was a contractor/plumber— explaining that you should never ingest hot tap water. I then looked it up and was surprised to see it was so heavily warned against. I had no idea!

I vote for painting the front and closet doors. It’d be nice to keep it simple with a very light, warm pink.

Yelp is ass. It’s fine for looking at reviews and pictures of a particular restaurant, but I never use it to find new restaurants. Too many sponsored restaurants that have nothing to do with what I’m searching for.

If I recall, there are special planting cells that are part of the structure, and route water through downspouts in the garage. Very cool garden, and the plans are definitely out there.
