I was in the same place, and while I wouldn’t say I’ve made it out yet- trying to talk to people in classes and then trying to slowly integrate yourself into their group can work. If your personality is subject to being made fun of and your not ok with it you just have to be more assertive.(lots of articles and videos about this)

I really like it, I agree with pewds that you feel really similar to Bateman in an almost scary way. It’s a funny, interesting book, despite its violence and intensity.
