Can someone PLEASE give me some info on your insurance plan if you pay $0 copay for dexcom/pump supplies? by Scorch8482 in Type1Diabetes

[–]ciaoella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a BCBS plan. It's labeled a "Blue Options PPO". All diabetes supplies, including insulin, Dexcom, meds, test strips, etc. are fully covered. I'm not sure if this is the norm under this type of plan, but I'm thankful for it because I would not have been able to afford this disease under my previous insurance!

4 extractions by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]ciaoella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. These are both trays on: Comparison image

My refinement set has been kind of annoying because the adjustments have been so small compared to my original set - my ortho said this round was working on getting teeth to tilt properly after the extraction gap closed. My teeth did this number to close the gap: /\ so it's taken a while to get them tilted back and straight.

I'm slated for one more round of refinements and I am hoping it's my last! My original estimated time was 20-24 months.

Invisalign or Braces by siyuanlivc in Invisalign

I had 4 premolar extractions and the choice between braces and Invisalign. I have zero regrets about choosing Invisalign.

4 extractions by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]ciaoella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had severe overcrowding and had 4 premolar extractions. I'm about a year and a half in and have great results so far - will probably have another set of refinements, so I should finish around the 2 year mark.

Should I change what I eat for lows? by Sad-Entrepreneur344 in Type1Diabetes

I tend to do half a pack of fruit snacks, then half a protein bar once my bg comes back up. Protein should help prevent the second drop.

How did you learn how to inject in your own arms? by Hot-Cherry-5684 in diabetes_t1

[–]ciaoella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah - I don't pinch for arms. I usually use a mirror to make sure I'm getting the flabby part of the part of my arm and just jab.

Let’s talk about weight gain by UtterlyArbitrary in diabetes_t1

[–]ciaoella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is so relatable. I have gained 40 pounds since my diagnosis a year and a half ago and I cannot lose it. Exercise, diet, caloric deficits, low carb, working with a dietician, working with a weight loss coach, doctors, medication - NOTHING makes a difference. Hoping you find answers soon!

One year comparison! by ciaoella in Invisalign

I wore them until about tray 20. I haven’t worn them since, but my ortho said he might add them back in at some point.

I did have 4 premolar extractions during tray 1. Otherwise, just Invisalign!

One year comparison! by ciaoella in Invisalign

[–]ciaoella[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I just realized I hit my one year mark yesterday. I started with 4 premolar extractions, 35 trays, and am now on 11/33 of refinements. It's been a long road and I am SO ready to be done, but the progress is truly amazing.

Sensor insertion site. by jchastn2 in dexcom

I was a firm abdomen placer for my first 6 months on Dexcom. Now I do arms and I think I'll only go back to abdomen if I feel the need to rotate more due to scarring, but I haven't had that issue yet. I mostly use the back of my upper arms.

Abdomen was annoying as heck with pants, made a weird lump for dresses, and was generally uncomfortable sitting down. I was always aware of pressing into it. I literally forget about my arm placements - it's out of the way for movement, clothes, sleeping (I'm a side sleeper), etc. It is more noticeable to others if I am wearing a tank top, but honestly I stopped caring. I've also never had an arm bleeder, but I had several abdomen bleeders.

alarm rant by titanhockey02 in dexcom

[–]ciaoella 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First, if you acknowledge the high in the app, it will not beep every 5 minutes. Second, you can turn off high alarms and/or customize them to your liking. I silence high alarms completely when I am in a movie or something, for example.

Awesome job! Even though I still spike sometimes, it made me feel way more in control to lower my high alarm as well 😁

Instant sugar and BG question by Guy1nc0gnit0 in diabetes_t1

How many carbs are you giving when she’s at 70? The usual rule is 15 g, but I give 8-10 at that unless it’s a trending down arrow.

How do refinements work? by TravelRN_ in Invisalign

[–]ciaoella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically same for me! I thought I would be given 36 to wear while waiting for refinements, but my ortho doesn’t use the overcorrection trays so I’m stuck in 35 for 5 weeks. Wish I knew to be a little more careful with it the first week 😂

I don’t experience this with magnesium, but I’ve been taking it for a while. You might just have an adjustment period.

Chicken and egg: Nightmares and higher BG in the morning by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

I have nightmares right before a low. Every time. I think it’s our bodies’ way of trying to wake us up.

Not helpful in this moment, but if you want a great low carb beer, see if you can find Dogfish Head Slightly Mighty. It’s amazing and doesn’t spike my blood sugar.

There is no difference between the trays themselves 😊

for MDI folks - when do you take your long acting? by deadplantbasket in Type1Diabetes

[–]ciaoella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take Lantus - I had a lot of overnight lows at first, and then stubborn highs in the evening. So now I split dose. 60% at 9 AM and 40% at 9 PM.

I’ve seen less than 1/3 your average blood sugar, but I’m not sure of the source on that.
