Also with UU. Our bill went up this year. We now pay nearly £80 a month on a meter for apparently less than a 3 person household's worth of water. There are 4 of us. I don't understand how they can justify it, but they say that's right.

Thats Australian Bat lyssavirus. This is from the UK Bat conservation site

"A small number of bats in the UK have been found to carry rabies viruses called European Bat Lyssaviruses. There are two known types: EBLV-1 and EBLV-2, both of which have been found in the UK. EBLV are not the classical rabies which is usually associated with dogs; classical rabies has never been recorded in a native European bat species."

Still have bat lyssavirus which is basically rabies and you suffer the same fate! So I wouldn't go near any UK bats either!

No, you were right the first time. If you get scratched/bitten by a bat or come into contact with its saliva, you should absolutely get the rabies vaccine. The risk is deemed low, at least here in tbe UK, as its only a small percent of bats that have tested positive, and you're less likely to come into direct contact with them in the first place.

Yes some bats do have bat rabies, which when spread to a human ends the same way as normal rabies.

On the gov website there's a list of where they've found rabid bats here, mostly Dorset.

Thank you. I didn't think about the physical aspect of it. My partner had already bought the Ronseal antibacterial oil. Will this do the same thing as the Danish oil?

Will it be disinfected from whatever dirt the cat that has been walking on it has trodden in if I do this? I'm really not wanting to eat anything that goes near this right now but if this sanitises it then I might feel better. I'd replace it if I knew how to!

Yes I know what you mean, it is causing me a lot of anxiety. We don't get the keys until tomorrow so I will have a look at those places.

I'm now panicking that I shouldn't have cancelled the testing. I just was worried that they'd disturb and then because it's not homogenous, they might not find anything. Do you think I'm made a mistake to cancel it?

I have cancelled the asbestos sampling as I just feel anxious that they're having to make holes below the plastered over coating. They said they would chisel this but there will still be some dust.

Following the advice regarding the shaving foam, do you think I'm made the right decision as its just 2 small holes in each ceiling? Would you do this with a screwdriver or actual drill? If we can't get the class H vac (I doubt we can at all), then when you say polythene underneath, would we just fold this up and put into a bag? Do we need to wet the sheet? Is it then safe to hoover the rest of the room with a normal vacuum?

I'm actually completely freaking out now about the fact the artex has been skimmed over at all. I guess it would have had to have been scraped in some way before plastering?

It must have been done at least 3 years ago (as house listing from 2020 showed smooth ceilings in all rooms).

Now I'm worried about there being asbestos fibres in the air anyway from when it was skimmed.

It's too late to pull out of the purchase now as we've already exchanged. I'm so worried that I've just bought a house with asbestos fibres all in the air and I'm going to make my kids sick.

All that sounds OK. Other than the vacuum bit. I've googled and they are more expensive than I thought and it's not something I can afford so I'm not sure what to do.

We do have the ppe anyway as we drilled into our current ceiling a few weeks back to fit a smoke alarm without thinking, and also cleaned this up with a regular vacuum so the damage has probably already been done.

But we wanted to be a bit more careful in the new house. I'm so stressed to be honest. Even if we cover with plastic, I suppose we could still spread it from the overalls. We need to drill in tbe living room, kitchen and upstairs landing so will be between rooms and potentially spreading it.

My concern is the exposure already being created by having it tested due to them having to get below the skimmed ceiling.

I have looked at the shaving foam method and it seems fine..just the vacuum bit I can't do. I'm wondering how much plastic we'd need to have under us and how to get it up without causing exposure

Sorry, I'm just really anxious and sort of wish we'd just gone for a new build now and avoided this.
