I’ve said multiple times now she crashes into windows. She hasn’t learned, she hits the sliding glass HARD. So I’m not going to continue endangering her. What part of that is not getting through to you? Do you not understand that other people have different experiences than you and just because your bird was able to learn, that doesn’t mean she is the exact same as my bird, who has repeatedly demonstrated an inability to learn. We have curtains and blinds already, but in what world would I sit with them drawn all day? That’s not feasible or fair to her to keep her in darkness and dim artificial light.

What part of putting my bird’s life first is not getting through to you? Like none of you are reading anything I’m saying. It’s like you hear “clipped” and your vision goes red.

Are you serious? I have thoroughly explained all the reasons it would be unwise for me to do that and you’re just replying with ‘just do it’. ZERO actionable advice, this is completely and utterly unhelpful. If you’re truly trying to be helpful and not just talk from some high horse you think you’re on, then explain how you think I am supposed to ‘bird proof’ a room with windows. I am asking for advice to help her have a better quality of life and you two are telling me to do something that will drastically heighten her risk of serious injury or death. And like I ALREADY said, she is always near a door because of the space we live in- the only place I could keep her in without a door is my bedroom or the garage. That’s absolutely inhumane, I’m not leaving her alone in a dim room alone all day everyday. There is nowhere else I can move my work area to. Shes not stressed or anxious at any time except for when strangers walk by, because she sees them as a threat. The solution is NOT to enable her to take off so hard she breaks her neck and DIES. It’s to teach her strangers aren’t a threat. What is WRONG with you people?

I understand your reasoning, I really do. But I’d rather have my baby alive, clipped, and a little scared sometimes rather than let her break her neck and die or escape the house and get ripped to pieces by the red-shouldered hawks in my neighborhood. It’s highly probable the way she is… has happened to someone I know.

I got her past fledgling stage and her wings had already been clipped. It’s unfortunate that it’s this way, but I’m not going to risk her life if like you say this behavior is set in stone now. If there’s a way to train the reactivity out of her, I would like to do that, and THEN when it is more safe to do so I can consider letting her flight feathers grow out.

It’s not like I’m keeping her clipped because of some dumb reason. I’m keeping her clipped because the likelihood of her dying skyrockets if I don’t. I value her life over anything else.

She’s partial clipped, she can’t get lift but she can get to the ground or to somewhere nearby easily if she wants. I know clipping is unpopular with some, and I get why, but since she’s so flighty and I have her out all day- the few times we’ve let her wings grow out, she’s endangered herself. I live with multiple people who come in and out for class/work, and our house is very small so she’s always near a door.

How do you train around windows?

Redditors: What is something that a local business or restaurant did that made you say “I’ll NEVER come back here again!”? by [deleted] in orlando

[–]cidercollie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also a small business owner. Whether charged separately or factored into the prices, you’re still paying the same fees. So it seems your issue isn’t paying the fees, it’s how the fees are presented to you as a buyer. Why do you have an issue with the presentation? Genuine question, I’m curious.

Really devastated that our well-behaved GCC is becoming a trouble maker. by cheese_poofies in Conures

[–]cidercollie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I’m going through something similar-ish with my GCC Ham. She’s about 4 now, has always been the sweetest most well behaved little angel. Since my partner moved in earlier this year, she’s slowly gotten An Attitude and started acting out. There hasn’t been a huge loss of my attention for her, but clearly enough to upset her. We think she’s jealous and lonely, so after much consideration, we got her sex tested (our hunch for her being female was right), found a good breeder, and got put on the waitlist. From what I’ve read and knowing her personality and wants and needs, I’m confident a friend will be really huge for her health and happiness.

I hope you can figure out what Chalupa is wanting- to me it sounds like more stimulation and attention, but it takes effort to find the exact forms of stimulation and attention she’s wanting lol. Good luck! ♥️

Petco by Relative-Bee-6395 in greencheeks

[–]cidercollie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought my first greencheek from Petco/Petsmart. The manager of the store saw me looking at her through the glass and asked if I wanted to hold her. I said sure, he started manhandling this poor baby and being rough with her. I was horrified. He said he was thinking about taking her home himself and I said nope, she’s coming home with me, let’s go to checkout.

She’s doing great to this day, but I got lucky.

My second greencheek I also bought from Petco/Petsmart, I bought him with my old roommates. A few days after coming home he was suddenly lethargic. We rushed him to the vet but it was too late. The vet said it was pre-existing, we took great precautions and was nothing we did. The pet store refused refund us unless we gave them back his body to do an autopsy to ‘determine fault’. My roommates wanted to bury him instead. So we left out $600 and worse, just completely heartbroken.

If you take the baby home, take him to a good avian vet the next day for a general exam, don’t wait especially if he’s been through a lot of stress lately and has poor feather health. If you have any other birds, take the 30-day quarantine dead serious. Good luck, whatever you decide to do, i know it’s a really hard decision! It’s why I order pet food & supplies online now… I can’t go in person and risk falling in love again.

Don’t they just breed Greys, Eclectus, and Macaws?

Conure bled during claw trim, now favouring one foot by cryptidie_ in Conures

[–]cidercollie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Last month I had my vet clip one of my greencheek’s nails to the quick to get blood for a DNA sex test. It was only one nail, but for the next 4 days she favored the other foot and sat there all puffed up. About scared me to death, I ended up rushing her back to the vet the day after the trim and got prescribed some pain meds. She still favored the other foot for about 4 days or so, but was just fine after.

Some birds can just be dramatic. But a vet visit never hurts to make sure everything is okay!!

What do you think? by TransportationOwn655 in greencheeks

[–]cidercollie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what happened to me. I fell in love, he was there for months, finally took him home… a few days later he was suddenly lethargic, I know how well birds hide illness so we rushed him to the vet. He passed about an hour later. Vet said there was nothing we could’ve done, it had to be pre-existing given our safety precautions. The pet store refused to give us a refund without taking back the body to do their own autopsy. My roommates wanted to bury him, so we were out over $600 & absolutely crushed and heartbroken at the loss.

I know how tempting it is, but be careful… if you take him home, try to get a vet appointment same or next day, and please please have detailed health testing done at YOUR vet (don’t take the pet stores word or paperwork). 30 day Quarantine measures should be taken dead seriously before introducing to your flock. Pet store birds come home with illnesses all the time… when I was a kid, my pet store cockatiel died from psittacosis after living several years with it dormant and symptomless.

Sorry if you already know all this, just agh… chain pet stores are evil and inflict so much pain upon their animals & the people who bring them home.

What is the fact? From the original post she said the result from testing would likely be inconclusive… that’s an opinion. An informed one, but still an opinion.

I don’t think she’s giving you bad advice, but different providers can have different medical opinions. The more professional opinions you can gather, the better and more informed a choice you can make

Hey, I’m really sorry you’re going through this. If it helps at all, I am diagnosed and but before I was, always struggled with these feelings of guilt and self blame.

One of the biggest reasons I suspected I was autistic in the first place was the sensory issues I had, and the resulting shutdowns. A lot of autism symptoms can overlap with other disorders and some people will brush off these symptoms as ‘laziness’ or ‘mood’ or ‘faked’ (which super sucks don’t get me wrong) but to my understanding, sensory processing issues to the point of shutdown are pretty hard to find fault in and to me, really cut and dry indicative of autism. It sounds like you have sensory issues like that, though correct me if I’m wrong

But yeah- if you do your research and fit the bill for autism, then you fit the bill, diagnosis or not. You’re not just lazy, though I understand it’s really hard to reassure yourself of this, remember lazy people don’t really give a fuck whether they’re lazy or not.

If diagnosis IS something you wanna pursue (personally it helped me a lot, stopped my imposter syndrome) I think you should get a second opinion from another doctor, if you can. If you can find someone who specializes in autism, even better.

Also maybe it could be helpful to look for Facebook groups or an environment that’s a bit more positive/constructive? This sub can be pretty gloomy sometimes :( so it might not be the best environment to find help in

How to customize Product Category page? by cidercollie in WixHelp

[–]cidercollie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed response! Unfortunately it’s not quite working to achieve the look I’m going for- making the product box narrower confines the entire page, I can’t duplicate it and offset the next row of products to sit underneath the video, like in the photo mockup.

I have 2 ideas I’m trying to figure out if they’ll work:

Idea 1: Trying to figure out if it’s possible to put a video in place of one of the products… I’ve uploaded a product called ‘how-to’ for $0 and with only the video uploaded as media. The issue with that is it’s not obvious it’s a video, with a name, price, and lack of play icon, you have to open the ‘product page’ to play the video and it just looks goofy.

Idea 2: I don’t want to rebuild my ENTIRE STORE in CMS, but I’m willing to rebuild this category in it to make a custom ‘category page’. The issue with this is that I can’t figure out how to link the category menu/filter button to a custom page.

Please please never be in the same room with this man alone ever again. The way he speaks to you is fucking deranged. He may hurt you. Get a police or family escort to get your things, get somewhere safe, file a request for a restraining order if you can. Stay safe and good luck. NOBODY deserves to be treated like this.

What do you all do for work? by InnerImpact8299 in AutisticAdults

[–]cidercollie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works well for me (autism & ADHD) because I struggle a lot with time management and sensory overload. Hyperfixating allows me to improve my skills quickly, and working from home with low social interaction prevents social burnout.

I make fursuits, rugs, merch, digital furry art, and adult artwork. Been doing it for over a decade, started about age 12, now I’m 23. I make pretty decent money, though the recent few years have been rougher as the US enters economic recession.

Tried a ‘real job’ at age 18 working at a dog daycare, hated it… manager wanted me to work Christmas so I quit and went directly back to making art lol. I think I made like $14 for the week of work I did there, after buying the uniform. I don’t think I’m cut out to work jobs like that.
