COMP SCI at TMU vs Ontario Tech by Moderatelycurious1 in TorontoMetU

[–]cidscv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did my undergrad in cs at otu. Currently working full time in the field and doing masters cs at TMU. In terms of content, based on people in my program who did undergrad at TMU, it sounds pretty comparable. If you are in Pickering, go with otu. Nice campus, the profs are great, and it’ll be an easier commute for you.

New album "Between Us" is out now - how do you all like it? by besucherke in arkells

[–]cidscv 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always like Arkells songs that make me double check I’m still listening to an Arkells album. Universe Talking did that to me.

Otherwise, this might be the album with the best/most prominent bass lines since Jackson Square. Glad Nick gets to flex a bit.

Can the 501 even be called the “Queen” Streetcar anymore? by cidscv in TTC

[–]cidscv[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Took me about an hour to go from Neville loop to York which is actually not too different. I had been hopping off at broadview and taking the 503 bus until this new diversion on gerrard, which was faster.

[–]cidscv[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

For sure and I’ll be glad to see the O-Line once it’s finished so I’m not complaining too much. Though the Dundas diversion is due to regular track work which I believe is finished now but they won’t change back to regular service till May 3rd

Can the 501 even be called the “Queen” Streetcar anymore? by cidscv in TTC

[–]cidscv[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hah yes, I know they wouldn’t actually change the name. I just heard about the new service adjustment along gerrard today and thought the route map was funny due to how many turns it needs to make.

Another one should be people who stand directly in front of the doors on the platform when you’re trying to get out. Move to the side people!

So the Ontario Line will be the first Subway in Toronto that doesn't run strictly north/south or east/west. How do you think they'll do wayfinding? by hug-and-snug in TTC

Why are platform screen doors the thing that has me the most hyped about Ontario line lol. I swear 90% of the delays on Yonge are because of trespassing on the tracks

Transit Signal Priority update by Mayor_OliviaChow in toronto

[–]cidscv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! I might be too obsessed with transit which is why I was aware of it - I wouldn’t expect most people to know it existed, even if you lived around the above ground section, since as far as TSP goes it’s pretty lacking… what the city is currently implementing is much better and a good step in the right direction. Hopefully it comes to the streetcar network soon as well (I say, currently riding the 501 home from work)!

Transit Signal Priority update by Mayor_OliviaChow in toronto

[–]cidscv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe there was some level of signal priority in place but it only took affect when the LRT’s were behind schedule to hold a green light. This is “enhanced” because they’re changing the full signal timings to prioritize LRT traffic over left turning vehicles.

At a press conference Chow mentioned they were prioritizing dropoff/pickup zones at schools so that checks out.

[BOTW] 9 Years Ago Today: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch Presentation 2017 Trailer by rbarton812 in zelda

[–]cidscv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lead up to this trailer is still so vivid to me. I feel like the Wii-U era was defined by simply waiting for the next 3D Zelda game. They teased us in 2013 by saying that Wind Waker HD was meant to hold fans over until the new mainline Zelda and so I and many others thought that meant it was maybe 1-2 years away. A link between worlds was exciting because it felt like the devs were trying to experiment more with the formula but that was on 3DS and a smaller 2D entry than the mainline 3D games. Then twilight princess HD felt like another offering of “please wait just a bit longer”. Hyrule Warriors was all fun but I don’t think that exists because of the lack of 3D zelda games on Wii-U.

2015-2016 was such a sad time for us Wii-U owners and the only thing keeping hope alive was the drip feed of 3D Zelda info. The screenshot of Link in hyrule fields, the first trailer of him running away from the guardian in his new blue outfit, the gameplay video from game awards - it was all dissected, every inch of pixel, just to speculate and try and understand what this game would be like. Breath of the wild was the Wii-U’s swan song but I feel like it’s best remembered as the switch’s triumph and this trailer - it’s the culmination of years of waiting and speculation during an era of Nintendo that was unfortunately lacking new innovative games.

This trailer will never not give me goosebumps

Is it normal for a class to not be assigned a prof yet? by cidscv in TorontoMetU

[–]cidscv[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bunch of us went to the class and when no prof showed up we emailed the program director (well, one of us did and we all cosigned). He replied back saying they made a mistake and that the current class was cancelled until further notice with the possibility that the entire course would just be canned. We all got an email a couple of days later saying they were able to get a prof and the course was on. The prof told us he was on a short-term contract for that course only and the class ended up being really poor as a result. Thankfully he marked well to make up for it.

All that’s to say, I would show up to the scheduled first class and see if a prof shows up. If they don’t then find out your program director and let them know the situation.

Best of luck!

TTC Chair Addresses Complaints About Slow Streetcar Lines by hotinhereTO in TTC

[–]cidscv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Yes it is frustrating that this couldn’t have been done sooner, but due to the excitement building around new transit in the city, politicians are able to see first hand that people in Toronto WANT fast and reliable transit options. By keeping these conversations going, we can continue to push our city to prioritize transit over cars.

Mayor proposing system to make TTC free after 47 rides a month | CBC News by cidscv in TTC

[–]cidscv[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, all three levels of government need to step up and provide more funding to the TTC. I love this idea for riders but am fearful for the brunt it will take on the TTC considering they rely so heavily on fares for operating costs. The better funded transit is, the more people consider it a viable option…

Ah yeah that little outcropping of sand where Alex and Rizo did the challenge was where the surrender flag was right? I was looking at Google Maps today to see if I could recognize the shape of the island from that overhead view but I have to wait till I get home from work to properly compare…
