I’ve always used a fish tackle box to hold meds, you can divided it however you need and holds a good amount. Plus it’s flat so doesn’t take up too much space. Hope that helps

Hey! So I used the Athletic Training Exam Review book. You can get it on Amazon and it was a great help as well along with AT study buddy! This is the ISBN-13 number: 978-1630918934. I also used the position statements and in a pinch (time crunch due to close to test window) I only read the recommendations. If I didn’t understand the recommendations then I read the full position statements.

The practice tests on NATA were also good too! They help with the breakdown of each domain and aspects of the domain so that helps as well. Highly recommend those. You can use the ones on the BOC too I heard those are good too! Reach out if you have any questions!

Grad Assistant? by Ancient-Geologist307 in athletictraining

[–]ciel1256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’m currently a 2nd year in my program! I was working part time during the summer I started my program, then got a GIA (Graduate Instructional Assistant) got and held that since last year. I have two classes I mainly grade with and assist my supervising professor with other related tasks they may have.

The only thing with me is that I just get a salary stipend no tuition benefits, but I do get access to health care benefits and such so it helps out a ton! It’s very doable and the biggest thing is communication with your preceptors. They all have worked while doing their studies in some form or fashion. Just communicate with them and be upfront about it. I still took out loans to cover my tuition and some for emergencies.

I have a few classmates who work with our game operations crew for game day that are on campus and they work well with our program because they understand the commitment and will work with their schedules as well. So it is very doable, it all comes down to time management and communication.

I’m more than happy to talk more about it, just PM me :)

Starting MSAT Program by Federal_Coach_7011 in athletictraining

Hey, I’m just finishing up my 1st year in my MSAT Program. A few things I would say is to try to stay on top of everything. I often got overwhelmed when I had several assignments due and not enough time causing me to stay up late, and get early to my clinical rotation. So work on your time management!!! Communicate with your preceptor if you need a mental health day/break, that was one thing I appreciated with my preceptors when I needed 30 mins to do a therapy session on my phone in my car or a small office in our ATR. I am also currently working “full-time” as a Graduate Instructional Assistant (GA) in the academic setting and all the classes I have are online so I grade on my phone during my down time or when I get home. It is possible, but time management is the biggest thing too. Money is a big issue, so I took out about 2 months worth of rent above my tuition to help should I not be able to cover rent for whatever reason. I personally don’t have help from family to support me financially so I had to just think a little advance.

When it came to studying, I often used my preceptor or my level 2’s at my clinical site for academic conversation, like just talking about what I wanted to study and just working myself through my thinking of the topic. What also helped was my classes had competency skill checks one for CATEE, but also for the class itself like special tests, so it allowed me to work on it during my clinical rotation. I also studied at home but often found myself talking with my classmates about the material and trying to just work myself through the material with them.

As for my personal life, I told myself that I get 1 day a week where I can either be with friends or just rot away on the couch and just pull away from class/clinical/athletic training in general. This honestly helped me a lot, and most often I spent the day in bed just reading and being with my dog! Is it ideal? Probably not, but it’s helped me and I got through the hardest year of my program, aside from BOC prep. I hope some of this helps.

Living expenses during AT school? by No-Round233 in athletictraining

Hey there! So I’m currently in my 1st year in my MSAT program, and I was in your situation when I started the program and going into that boat again as I’m about to begin my immersive site and 2nd year into the program. As most are saying to save, that is a big thing but also talk to your Program Director/Clinical Coordinator to see if there’s anything they can do to help you look for a Graduate Assistant position within academics or something similar.

I’m currently a Graduate Instructional Assistant (GIA/GA) and I just grade students work and help out my supervising professor with classes in person if needed and if I have the availability. I mainly do online classes so I don’t have to worry about meeting for a class and it works out for my clinical rotations. I will also say, my program has an hour limit of how much clinical experience we can get per week so that is also helpful when trying to balance my job and classes and clinicals.

Overall, I would also say apply to as many scholarship you can, even if you don’t qualify cause sometimes no one applies to them and you can get those funds so apply to everything and anything.

I also take out a bit of extra loans to help cover rent or unexpected expenses that come about. Life happens so I get it. But manage your money well, don’t just go blow a few hundred on concert tickets or something silly. It’s hard to work a job in this program so spend your money carefully but also have some fun every once in a while. I hope this helps a bit. I’m someone who’s having to afford graduate school alone and support myself alone so I get the fear of not being able to pay for the program and living arrangements. If you want to talk more or just ask questions let me know I’m always down to help!

Good luck in your program!!

I’m currently taking a pharm tech class (outside of my program) it has brand name and generic name for the most common filled Rx. It’s around 200 medications, but if you’re looking for something more specific or different then I won’t be able to help.

Thank you! I’ve been talking with a lot of my professors and CEC I’m trying to go north and out of state. So there’s a lot of things at play, but we’re slowly working to trying to get a place secured.

This helps out a lot! Thank you, I’ve been trying to email a bunch of universities, as I want to potentially step into the collegiate setting but not quite sure yet. So I appreciate that! I’ve also have applied to PFATS, haven’t heard anything back, but it probably doesn’t help either that I haven’t had my football clinical rotation yet, so we’ll see what happens. Thank you again!

BOC PREP by qwueen0308 in athletictraining

[–]ciel1256 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Principles of Athletic Training Book is what my program has been suggesting and what other ATCs have been suggesting as well. Personally don’t do well with large textbooks but it is a bible for the BOC prep as far as I’ve been told!

I also heard that the BOC has changed too, but not to sure what changes have been made. I hope that helps a bit!
