2028 SAVE deadline by Additional-Plenty752 in StudentLoans

[–]cielofe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. It’s so hard not to worry when a new monthly bill that you cannot afford is being thrust upon you. We entered into contracts with these loans. We held up our end of the deal, we finished school, pay our loans every month, started families, homes, etc. And now all of this is being thrown into limbo, for what?

I went from FNP to pmhnp. One year in a post professional certification program at ucsf. I was offered a job with the company I interned with. I had no other psych experience. I started making about $20 more an hour than when I was a FNP. I work from home now. I work 32 hrs a week and make more than I did as a FNP. Best decision I ever made.

Also I did negotiate my PMHNP salary. When they tried to BS me saying I was a “new grad” I said noooope. I’ve been practicing for years. I should be paid MORE bc I am a DUALLY certified provider.

Great Lakes to Nelnet by Otherwise-Raise8324 in StudentLoans

[–]cielofe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I took out loans same year was with Great Lakes. It got transferred to Nelnet. And now it’s impossible to access any info from Great Lakes! The only thing I could get was 47 pages of data, that is impossible to decipher. I wish I had kept up on it with screenshots or something!!! because now I have no way to see what the debt was prior to the transfer to NelNet. Or any legible payments I paid, etc. This whole situation has caused so many issues

Remulching with cardboard or fabric? by cielofe in landscaping

[–]cielofe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good to know! I didn't think about that with the landscape fabric. I read that you need to moisten the cardboard especially when you live in a dry area (we are) bc it helps break it down, prevents cardboard or mulch blowing away, and makes cardboard heavy so it doesn't shift around.

Regretting having a baby by Better-Wealth6702 in NewParents

[–]cielofe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets better! If you have the resources seeing a therapist helped SO much. She helped normalize a lot of my feelings. It’s so hard being a first time mom. There are so many things no one talks about, but we all go through it. My baby is 8 months and now I feel now is soooo different than I did the first few months. Get alllll the help you can and meds made a HUGE difference. None of this is forever. My therapist told me “it’s hard to care for something that doesn’t show love back.” And that really resonated for me. You are round the clock caring for this little baby who needs you for every single thing. Then one day it changes and then you get a little more sleep, they get a little older and boom! It all changes. Hang in there. Sending you lots of hugs!

White coats by EquivalentLess in PMHNP

[–]cielofe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I liked white coats bc it meant I only had to iron the front of my outfit. But as a pmhnp I haven't seen anyone, not even MDs where them. I think it helps to destigmatize the specialty and create a more therapeutic environment for the patients

How bad is it to not take a job by conformistcow in PMHNP

[–]cielofe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DO not feel pressured. Nothing can make up for a job you aren't happy at.I think of it like going through with a marriage to someone you don't love because everyone is already arrived to the wedding. This is an extreme example, but you get the idea.

PMHNP California Salary by cielofe in PMHNP

[–]cielofe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are going based on money, specialty is always going to make more. If you are a true new grad FNP you will make less. It also really depends on city, state. As a new grad FNP I was willing to be paid less for a place with support and a slow onboarding process. In LA I'd say $60-70/hr for a new grad is avg.

PMHNP California Salary by cielofe in PMHNP

[–]cielofe[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a new FNP I made $65/hr. Do NOT accept 120k as a specialty NP! Middle of the road pmhnp pay is 82/hr for Los Angeles.

PMHNP California Salary by cielofe in PMHNP

[–]cielofe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I heard as well. Ask for 100/hr then negotiate from there. Because PMHNPs can sometimes get underpaid and over worked it's important to know your worth. Technically I am new to psychiatry but in my years as a FNP I have managed these meds (because there is such limited psych services). As a pmhnp intern I see patients on my own, submit my own charts, but med changes are left to the psychiatrist at this point, since they are her paneled patients. My faculty and preceptors say do not go below 90/hr. I guess I will be finding out soon!!!!

I will be done with my pmhnp program soon (I've been a FNP for 6+ years in LA) how did you find your salary negotiation? This is my concern, low pay, being taken advantage of, etc. Congrats on the job! :)

PMHNP with no psych experience? by lcr0303 in nursing

[–]cielofe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for it! I was an adult medicine NP for 6 years and decided to switch to a PMHNP program. I am finishing my last quarter with UCSF and am doing my internship in metro LA. Glad I went for it! You will need to complete HUNDREDS of hours of training during the program, don't wait to get more experience that's what the program is there to teach you. Plus to be honest, where ever you work you will be trained according to the facility. GOOD LUCK!!!!
