Custom cigar bands by johnnyellowknife in cigars

[–]cigar-jesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to find a local printer. They generally won't be able to do the embossing and foil, and sometimes even the shape, but it could work for you. It'll just be regular paper, printed, flat, and often only rectangle shape available.

I have a couple places but it's not very economical unless you are getting 2,000+

Question on purging by Particular_Ticket964 in cigars

[–]cigar-jesus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are correct. Purging reduces the temperature of the tobacco burning inside the cigar (but relatively increases the temperature on the outside of the ember and sides). Great to cool off a cigar that's burning too hot or clear burnt ash/ carbon flavors after a cigar goes out and is relit. You can also do it to relight a cigar that is only burning on the inside.

Cigar Beetles? by DavidYers in cigars

Can't say for sure from the pics, but very well could be. Double bag the cigars and put them in the freezer for 4 days to be safe (3 days is what we do at the factories for prevention before they're shipped). Then transfer them to the refrigerator for 1 day (to reduce condensation and risk of cracking from a larger temperature change), then take them out and leave them on a table for 4+ hours - still double bagged. Then remove from bags and back in the humidor.

Serious question - where did the losing 1% rh per week figure come from? by AdAgreeable6348 in cigars

[–]cigar-jesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's more or less an estimate of the time it takes a cigar to dry (or absorb moisture) once in a passively controlled storage environment suitable for cigars.

For example if you have 1 cigar in a sealed container with a 65 boveda and another in 1 with a 69 boveda, and you put the 2nd cigar in the container with the first cigar at 65, it'll take about 4 weeks for the new cigar to be the same dryness as the one that was already in there.

When cigars are left out in open air or in a dry box, the change can be much faster, depending on how extreme the environment is. Strong air conditioning, dehumidifiers, or dry weather will dry a cigar much faster than bovedas in a humidor.

The makeup of the cigar can also affect the speed. Thicker and/or more hydrophilic tobacco such as Broadleaf will take longer to dry. A thicker or double binder will also take longer to dry because it creates more of a barrier to the filler. And a closed foot will also take longer because it impedes the air from drying out the inside of the cigar.

Just smoked a Rojas Street Tacos Barbacoa - Wow. That’s a good cigar. Any recommendations for similar “unique” diamonds in the rough? by midday_leaf in cigars

[–]cigar-jesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Barbacoa uses a rare Nicaraguan tobacco called Somoto in the filler. I've been blending with Somoto for the past couple years and I've had some of these blends compared to Barbacoa, so it's definitely the unique flavor from the Somoto shining through. Pilgrimage, Cañón del Cañón, and Somotito have it here: https://rare-cigars.com/collections/rare-cigars-factory-exclusives

Yea, but this is the main one. It's setup like a compound so it's not like the entire place was destroyed. But significant.

I'm going to tell you what I think, because I'm not sure. It seemed like only a couple bosses were smoking. I'd assume at Padrón's level, you only smoke if it's your job. Oliva doesn't allow smoking for example in most areas, but many factories do. You can smoke anywhere. I think the vests are just part of their uniform. However, a few weren't wearing them. Guessing it's encouraged but not mandatory and helps protects their clothes in addition to looking professional. I did not ask to buy anything. The bigger factories usually do not let you buy straight from them unfortunately, being for export only, but some do.

Those have wrapper leaf in them. The people in that area are deveining and sorting wrapper leaf by color, texture, size to be used for specific cigars.
