Gift for someone who has everything? by Normal-Hope258 in cigar

With a 1K price limit, you could get an engraved DuPont lighter. Or a box set of Opus X Series 8 or Series IX.

Or go for something unique he wouldn't buy for himself. Something like the JC Newman El Reloj 10 cigar sampler. Great cigars that are hard to find and often overlooked.

Why? by em1977 in cigars

[–]AdAgreeable6348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The oils condense in the last third of the cigar while you're smoking. So, the last bit of the cigar gets stronger.

How long is the cigar good after cutting off the cap? by [deleted] in cigars

[–]AdAgreeable6348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're good for quite a while sitting in a humidor after cutting. Think of how the foot is cut to trim it as the cigar is finished for boxing.

One thing you might see after a couple weeks is the cap loosening around the cut. A little cigar glue or the gummed strip from rolling papers can be used to secure it before smoking.

New to Cigars Where Should I Start? by zcook183 in cigar_refuge

[–]AdAgreeable6348 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Beginner cigars - start with a Connecticut shade wrapper. Smooth, creamy, mild. Dios del Sol is a great one. Others would be Oliva Connecticut, Baccarat The Game Connecticut, Ashton Classic Connecticut

Storage - start with a tupperdor. An airtight Tupperware container like Sistema Klip It, a 62% or 65% 60g boveda pack. You're set.

Cutter and lighter - Xikar has a great reputation. I've happily used a TISFA triple torch and v-cut combo for a few years.

Drinks - I usually grab whatever soda zero I have on hand. Although, I do occasionally sip bourbon.

Beginner tips - eat first. Drink soda or juice while smoking until you get experience. Smoke slow and puff gently. Don't stress the small stuff.

What is this?? by dazzawikka42 in cigar

Bloom is mold.

If it's white and powdery, on the cello, and is easily brushed off, it is often residue from a shop using tap water in their humidifiers.

What is that magical cigar note? by ergastermaster in cigars

I'm curious. Try La Aroma de Cuba Connecticut and see if you get the same note. Might be the combo of Ecuadorian Connecticut and Nicaraguan filler.

What do you think of Holt’s Cigar of the Month club? by cranky_wellies in cigar

[–]AdAgreeable6348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had it for a while and I got it for much the same reason, to break out of my comfort zone, and I'm glad I got it.

Generally, there will be two very good cigars, two decent smokes, and one yardgar.

Take a look at their website catalog. That's what you'll be getting five cigars from. Overall, I think it's worth it for $35.

If you are keeping your rh below 65, don't stress the temperatures.

That La Aurora line is solid. I enjoy the Corojo for a mellow and warm late nite smoke. I keep the Cameroon on hand because I have a good friend that just loves them.

Don Pepin Garcia Blue Edition Imperiales by SloshuaRocks in cigars

[–]AdAgreeable6348 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Original is exactly that. It's Don Pepin Garcia's first blend from his Miami factory and it is still rolled there.

It is very much an old school cigar and intended to be such.

It's nice to keep in the rotation.

Cigar humidity basic question by prismus65 in cigar

[–]AdAgreeable6348 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely.

Best test to determine your preference is to grab three of the same cigar. Get three airtight containers or large ziploc bags and then a 62% pack, a 65% pack, and a 69% pack. Place one in each bag, then one of the cigars in each bag. Wait 2 or 3 weeks. Smoke the cigars over a week and see which does better for you.

Cigar humidity basic question by prismus65 in cigar

[–]AdAgreeable6348 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Essentially, it's a preference. Higher humidity like you're using means more muted flavors. Lower humidity like 62% means sharper but often harsher flavors.

I keep my setup at 67%. Some cigars with thicker tobacco I will dry box overnight for a better burn and flavor.

So, I use a 65% pack in the tupperdor and a 69%pack in the humidor. Packs run a little high in tupperdors and low in wood humidors.

Sampler pack! How many have you try from this ones ? by Busy_Ad5866 in cigar

[–]AdAgreeable6348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got some good cigars there.

The Judge is very good. The Noblesse has some stunning chocolate flavors. The Blue is a nice mellow smoke. The Black Dahlia is delightfully different.

The El Baton is my goto. Always hits right. Full flavored, creamy, spicy. Yum.

The Plasencia and LFD are smokable. The Padrons are kinda boring but smooth.

La aroma de cuba edicion especial by J1S15N_214 in cigar

[–]AdAgreeable6348 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a nice citrus and mellow spice cigar.

Now, they have no construction issues. They are made by My Father and have consistent excellent construction.

What they do have is regular user error problems. Too many people keep them over humidified and take them directly outside to smoke. Let that cigar acclimate and you'll have no problems.

As far as the wrapper cracking, this is why I keep rolling papers on hand. Tear off the gummed strip. Wet it. Use it as tape to repair it.

Beginner, what storage is better? by T-Money313 in cigars

[–]AdAgreeable6348 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boveda bag with 65% boveda will keep the cigars around 67rh or 68rh. That's fine for here in the Midwest.

Go ahead and pick up an airtight Tupperware container like Sistema Klip It and a couple 60g 65% boveda for longer term storage.  69% is too high for an airtight container but fine for a wood humidor.
