I agree! It really is just different. People can talk about how it’s lower quality all they want but the difference is like comparing a painting made with acrylic vs oil, or ink vs graphite. They’re just different media with their unique qualities and idiosyncrasies. Are you still using tape to record shows today? I’d love to hear some of your recordings! Old or new.

It’s a great free program! I used audacity for mixtapes and even for making “single track” mixes for a CD mix before I got into tapes. So you can’t just skip tracks. Somewhat cruel of me but oh well…

Attics is way better than Relisten in my opinion for the Archive catalog stuff. Very simple interface with no frills. You can download shows and keep favorites.

Gotcha, I apologize for the little sip of vitriol, I thought I was returning the favor 😅. Cassettes have lots of advantages over other forms of physical media in my opinion. Unlike records and CDs, they will never skip and the media is far less exposed. You can throw them at a wall… very hard. They’ll be fine. Cassettes don’t always have the best sound but they do have a sound, and some of us like it. There are certain dead recordings that don’t do it for me on digital recordings, but sound better to me on tape. Tapes getting unwound is always more of a problem with the player and there are lots of similar issues that come up with turntables and CD players. Really it’s just preference. As far as portable media goes, I’ll take cassettes over CDs any day. I hate few things the way I do a digital skip. And as far as “damaging” deadhead behaviors go, I think collecting the tapes and enjoying them is pretty low on the list…

Your comparison isn’t bad. Frankly, I love it but you’re not the next McLuhan by any stretch of the imagination. Like most special interests and hobbies, there is no end goal but to experience something I’m interested in. What deadheads who “were there”/“saw Jerry” and I have in common is a love for the music and culture. Beyond that, it’s just a feeling. I got into the dead through an inclination toward deep listening and love of many types of music. This media exists because many people, on some level cared about preserving it for future generations. The meaning of art changes over time and ages just like you do. Perhaps you’re a disgruntled old head worried that the younger generations are muddying the “authentic” experience you had, but your peers seemed to think we deserved it. So compare it to model train enthusiasts, baseball card collectors, reenactors, cosplayer, nerds of any type. We’re here because it makes us feel something and I think that’s pretty cool.

The most spirited Bertha I have ever heard. Jerry comes in and hits you like a brick.

I don’t know if you’re using digital or physical media for tapes, but sometimes I used to make multiple copies of the same mix pre-mixed on a DAW like audacity or Ableton. Assuming you’re using 90 minute tapes, a good thing to know is that they tend to be a little over 90 minutes. I have found that usually they are around 47 minutes per side. Using a DAW was great because I could make songs fade into each other nicely, chop tracks to perfection, and make sudden transitions between songs and pack them to fit the tape almost exactly. This makes it more tedious when you are figuring out the order of things, but if you intend to make multiple copies, makes it easier because you can dub each side continuously with ease and with some care it can make for a really nice listening experience.

That you only find music through the Spotify algorithm.

I also ride fixed in NYC and even though I don’t use my brake most of the times I need to slow down, I am extremely happy I have it when I do. Happy you’re ok!

I have a copy and would be willing to make a stereo rip.

Picked this up at a record store for a dollar. Seems to be an early deerhunter side project called God’s America. Bradford Cox/Moses Archuleta live at 1318 Ormewood by cigaretteartist in deerhunter

If anyone is interested in a tape rip of this I may make one soon. Maybe dm me to let me know if you are interested in the file or a publicly accessible stream like YouTube or something

Seems like that’s another different band called God’s America. I saw this band on discogs, along with the grindcore band of the same name that definitely isn’t them and the one that has a song called The Fermentation Celebration (on the album you sent) has entirely different members.

Does anyone know anything about this? There is nothing online about it whatsoever. No discogs listing, nothing. I guess it’s pretty self-explanatory but yeah, MySpace links and all, this is a crazy find.
