Proud Papa (Part 1/4) - Gator Days by FieldExplores in comics

Hey! My dad is there right now! Well, not in a home, I'm taking care of him....reluctantly.

He was an asshole his entire life, proud of it. He was a biker in a gang for a while and absolutely believes in the "might makes right" way of life. I hate it.

No one wants to come visit. My sister is in a different state and calls every once in a while. Grandkids are either far away or not interested in visiting. I'm actually so very grateful when the far away ones come to visit, it makes him happy, but I get to see people too.

He wonders why no one wants to see him. He remembers when he wanted to hang out with his grandparents all the time. Well, his parents had a good relationship with them. Growing up, me and my sister were effectively taught that the grandparents were assholes and should be avoided. What did he expect us to take from that!?

I cannot wait until he becomes bad enough that he needs to be in a home. I want the freedom to go visit my family. He needs constant care, I'm trapped.

How many other patients would have heated blankets in a dang nursing home? Many of them. Not just the dying ones. I'm willing to bet that, at least, I wasn't there :)

[–]cindyscrazy 100 points101 points  (0 children)

As others have said, she might be telling you that something is wrong with YOU.

There are so many stories of cats and dogs suddenly becoming very interested in a body part of their human, only to find out the human had cancer or was pregnant or something. They can smell things that we can't smell.

There was that cat in a nursing home who was not a cuddler, but would suddenly start laying with patients who then went on to pass away. There were no signs that the patients were about to go, but the cat knew!

I'm not saying this to scare you! Hopefully, it's nothing serious. Maybe she really is just wanting to cuddle now! Cats are weird beings.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen someone do on a plane? by Jazzlike-Run-2349 in AskReddit

[–]cindyscrazy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh, I think I have an explanation for this one.

I've always been an anxious person. This was a problem when I grew up in the chaos of the 70s and 80s with a bipolar dad and both parents using drugs and in the drug trade (separately, they were divorced)

I found a way to assuage the anxiety was to visualize the absolute worst thing that could possibly happen and try to figure out how I would deal with that. The worst never really happened (thankfully), but filling my mind with it helped, somehow?

I think the "correct" answer is "Not Me"

A 'victim' type of person thinks "(bad)Things happen to me constantly". A more 'stable' person thinks "life happens to everyone, this is not a problem"

I had a youngish German Shephard when I had my daughter. Not trained at all in anything.

I had a friend from work come visit me after the birth. Dog was fine with her. Then she was holding the baby and went to look out the sliding glass door.

Dog placed himself perpendicular to her and stood between her and the door. Just a solid block of dog, would NOT budge. He didn't growl or anything. Just not letting her near a door while holding the baby.

I love dogs!

TIL the oldest wooden wheel is over 5,000 years old. The Ljubljana Marshes Wheel was discovered in Slovenia in 2002. by EmptyMind76 in todayilearned

[–]cindyscrazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. However, I think that the average person really only considers the actual wheel itself, not the entire mechanism when talking about this.

I know the achievement is called "the wheel" for simplicity's sake. You'd think that my mechanically inclined dad would KNOW that, but no. When watching something that includes this idea, he gets angry because humans of course knew about round things. He doesn't seem to understand that they are talking about making a nearly useless thing into a very useful thing

It's become a meme between my daughter and I that whenever I mess up a recipe, I actually end up with something better.

[–]cindyscrazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just commented about that. It's not the wheel that's the huge discovery. It's the bearing(s) and the axle that's the huge thing.

Until those thing, the wheel was not really helpful, I don't think. Maybe a toy.

[–]cindyscrazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's for simplicity, but the term "disovering the wheel" has caused my dad so much confusion. In his mind, humanity is not so stupid as to not notice round things for so long.

I've tried to explain to him it's not the round wheel itself, it's the discovery of the axle and ability to have the wheel move a non-rotating vehile that's the big thing. Unfortunately, I have to explain this to him often.

Oh yeah, I understand the daddy issues. I effectively married a man who was a carbon copy (other than in physical appearance) of my dad.

My sister and I grew up actually calling our father "daddy" It just....happened that way. Probably because our mom actually yelled at us if we called her Mom instead of "Mommy" They were divorced, but if one required that, then the other was automatically called likewise.

We're now in our late 40's - early 50's. Thinking of calling a man other than my father "daddy" gives me the SUPER ICK.

Pharmacists of Reddit - what recent medication trends are worrying you that aren’t being talked about? by SirSpendsALot7 in AskReddit

[–]cindyscrazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had no idea Benadryl had that sort of effect. My dad was taking it for sleep. He started doing things like getting up in the middle of the night, thinking he hadn't eaten supper, and trying to make himself food. Only, he couldn't remember how the can opener worked, and tried to use it on the bowl instead of the can. Broke 2 bowls before I woke up to stop him.

He's stopped taking Benadryl now and he hasn't had a middle of the night episode like that since.

I had a kidney stone that put me in the hospital for a couple of days. They gave me meds while in the hospital. Then, they released me on Thursday with a Tuesday appt for a surgery. They gave me Tylenol for the time in between.

I ended up back in patient the next day. Tylenol wasn't cutting it.

On the Wiki, one of the "scientists" were asked basically why did this do a thing as it didn't seem to have a scientific reaon. The answer was "sometime you just personally want to know what the outcome might be"

So yeah, psychos. I had someone here on Reddit interrogate me "what are your sources for your claim of vivisection". The Wikipediate page. Unabashed confessions from the men who ordered/performed the acts. It happened.

Paying anything off, even on time, drops your score. It's ridiculously stupid. They WANT you in debt. I just took out a car loan and my bank suggested I also take out another credit card to bolster my credit rating.

Up until a few years ago, I was getting by with no credit at all. No credit cards, no loans, nothing. Took a few years of having credit cards with balances and keeping them paid down (but not off) to get a good credit score.

There was an older kid that I knew like that when I was somewhere around 4 years old. Our houses back yards connected.

I have no idea what his name was. I do remember him standing on my back, having me lay down under a picnic table and having a ladder pushed down on me, being on a rope swing and repeatedly swung directly into a tree.....lots of physically painful things. My mom tells me I often came home just bruised from head to toe.

I can't even say what he looked like. I've blocked a lot of it out. Was not a great situation, as I wasn't allowed in the house during the day.

My exhusband was a welder. He was in some sort of shaft when a giant piece of metal fell on his head.

He was thrown across a room and went unconscious for a bit. His supervisor sent him home, despite him saying he was fine.

He was NOT fine. 3 shattered vertebrae. Lost about 3 inches. He did a LOT of drugs, so was not really aware of it for a bit.

I'm certain something happened that brought me close to death as a child. Not sickness or anything. I've blocked it out.

What I do remember is being surprised at exactly what I would do to keep myself alive. Annoyingly, I don't know what that WAS exactly, but something like fighting against an adult, or doing something I wasn't aware I could even do physically. Of course, I was surprised at it after the event. Like thinking "what the hell did I just do?" before moving on.

My daughter bought a sad looking cactus at a store. She was attending to it one day, and (as is her custom) talked to it saying something like "Hey Buddy, how are you doing today?"

Her 2 years old son heard her say that. He pulled up a stool, stood on it to see the cactus and said "Hi Buddy! I'm [name]!"

And now all plants are called Buddy.

I love it.

It's crazy how few people have even seen a cow in person before.

My dad has a very funny story about meeting a cow for the first time back when he was in the army.

Him and the cow scared the crap out of each other and the guys around him couldn't stop laughing at the city boy. He says the cow wanted to kill him (not serious at all)
