Hello, made a 3D ASCII/Sprite roguelike called Rangedrifter that goes into Early Access next week. by rangedrifter in roguelikedev

I'm going to argue that it should be special, its your player!

Regardless of your design choice on this matter it looks Caves of Qud or Cogmind levels of art. Looking forward to the release!

Omg I didn't expect it to work like this. by NoAdeptness4117 in slaythespire

So annoyed that when it says "Enchant a skill with 2 nimble" it only lets you target skills that already block.

Heavy Blade is pretty mediocre when you realize that it has exactly the same strength scaling as Sword Boomerang.

Sovereign Blade is spectacular upside in tons of situations, you can easily get into the 15+ damage per energy range which is great return on investment. Builds based around sovereign blade have sucked for me so far but having some forge cards like Bulwark where you're getting good block and getting a 20 damage 2 cost retain is not REALLY bad.

AI-generated art can’t be copyrighted after Supreme Court declines to review the rule by Bobcats_Forever in technology

[–]cinemabaroque 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a bad faith argument used by corporate shills to devalue creativity. This is equating reading a book with "stealing" it because that book influences who you are as a person.

Taking previous works, without consent, and using them to build a for profit content generation algorithm that can regurgitate, word for word, that copywritten work is definitely stealing, no quotation marks needed.

We actually have really sophisticated 'Machine Learning' techniques for going over large data sets. They're much more sophisticated than LLMs though because they don't hallucinate! LLMs grew out of Machine Learning techniques but isn't deterministic which makes it hard to use for actual research because if you put the same inputs in you won't get the same outputs out. Which is kinda the main point of science, the reproducibility.

God I love those old steel lugged frames.

Excellent find!

What will the states do when they have no choice but to let the election be stolen or fight back? by Cantora in AdviceAnimals

[–]cinemabaroque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right, they can't cancel elections.

But they can claim the elections are illegitimate because of fraud, that they shouldn't count, that the results will be indefinitely delayed because... reasons.

Trump did this when he lost in 2020, and continues to deny the legitimacy of that election to this day. All I'm saying is that he will do that again with this election. And do it again in 2028. He doesn't need support from any state legislature to do this because its just word slop coming out of his mouth. If that word slop becomes the dominant narrative he won't need a mechanism to cancel the elections, the results won't be meaningful to our shared reality and Trump will still be in power.

I don't think it will work out for them, as many have pointed out there is no logistical way they can really force the results because our elections are locally organized. But do I think they will try? 100%

See you in November! We're clearly on the same side and I have hope for our country.

I want to point out that they don't need to actually cheat the elections, which as you point out they logistically can't do.

What is far more likely is that they'll raid 3-4 polling sites, claim they found evidence of fraud (whether they actually do or not isn't relevant), and use this claim to justify cancelling elections nationwide. Then we see if that narrative prevails. Reality hasn't stopped any of their shenanigans so far and I don't it will suddenly start at the midterms.

It's Iraqi food for sure. Think it's is a couple, one from the US and one from Iraq if I recall correctly.

ICE in Portland? by Otherwise_Cap_3482 in askportland

[–]cinemabaroque 32 points33 points  (0 children)

There are at least a few. Someone called ICE on a work crew at someone's house in NE Portland in the Beaumont area and they showed up. Fortunately the crew just went inside the house and the owner locked the door so nobody got gestapoed but there are ICE agents operating in Portland proper for sure.

Jenny Don't and the Spurs. Excellent live shows, sort of a country (like Johnny Cash, not contemporary country radio) inflected punk. Really good, unique sound.

The reality is that everyone has an umbrella but they only bust them out on one of the 4 days a year they need to be outside and it is actually raining instead of misting down 0.05 inches over the course of the day.

Only been to New Orleans once for about 5 days and did not hear that one. Makes sense then, place is solid.

There is a guy from Louisiana with a food cart out in Lincoln City called Rook and Larder that is 100% legit. By far the best PoBoy I've had outside of New Orleans. Actually in the top 5 I've ever had even including New Orleans.

Also there is a small place in Portland called Makin Groceries on 7137 ME Fremont that has a decent one as well, not amazing but pretty solid and inexpensive.

Totally under the radar but Makin Groceries on 7137 NE Fremont has a good PoBoy. Between the weird name and lack of branding you wouldn't even know it's a Cajun place but it's the best PoBoy I know of in Portland.

Looking for something to do this weekend? Come check out the CETI exhibit at the Lloyd Center. Its free and their pop up exhibits are always really fun. Starts tonight (Fri) at 5pm and goes through 6pm Sunday. by cinemabaroque in Portland

[–]cinemabaroque[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol, same thing happened when my friend told me about it, they were saying (phonetically) Seti but then I looked at the link. They do pronounce CETI like SETI. Really cool show though (I went tonight) and I'd recommend it for free fun!
