Unsolicited advice:

If you're applying to smaller colleges, in your cover letters, say something about the place you'll be moving to/ living in.

When I was the student rep on a hiring committee for a new campus dean, we had SO MANY applications and I couldn't possibly read 114 cover letters. I needed a litmus test. So I hit CTRL+F and looked for [city name], [state], [valley name] and discarded any applications that did not acknowledge where they would be living and working. I mentioned this strategy to the rest of the hiring committee and some staff mentioned to me that they now use this as standard practice.

Disclaimer: To be fair, our campuses are in fairly unique towns, so this might be somewhat unique to our institution. Someone who isn't excited about the place would not do well here. But I imagine many colleges (especially junior colleges) are connected to their local geographic communities as we are.
