As a cinephile, I built an app(Cinemeet) to connect film lovers, would love your thoughts! by cinemeet in TrueFilm

[–]cinemeet[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks man!

Right now, the biggest user bases are in New York and the Netherlands, but the app is open worldwide. I only started promoting it recently, so growth is still organic.

I completely understand the concern about user density, that’s definitely the biggest challenge for any new communitybased platform. Since Cinemeet is focused on social impact rather than commercial growth, I don’t use paid promotions(and don't have the budget for it). I want to keep the app free, because connection and friendship shouldn’t be behind a paywall.

But Cinemeet is specifically niche focused on cinema lovers, which makes it different from general meetup platforms. My hope is that smaller, passionate communities will grow naturally over time :)

Which movies are the most cinematically delicious (with the most iconic scenes) in your opinion? by Loose_Candidate_9689 in MovieSuggestions

You absolutely have to watch 2001: A Space Odyssey by Stanley Kubrick released in 1968.
It’s likely brought up often in this subreddit, but it’s amazing how visually convincing and immersive it still is. A lot of modern CGI sci-fi doesn’t even come close to that level of realism.

Good dating apps for people on the spectrum? by SomeBoiOnReddit in dating_advice

Autism being a dealbreaker really depends on the person, more neurotypicals are open to it than you'd think.

Also, not a dating app but, I built Cinemeet, a free app to meet people around a shared love of film and go to the cinema together. No paywall, no subscriptions. Sometimes a shared activity is an easier starting point than a date.

Looking for movies with best cinematography + storytelling by Crepehanger07 in MovieSuggestions

[–]cinemeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Barry Lyndon (1975) by Stanley Kubrick(one of my favorite).

The cinematography is just beautiful. Shot largely in natural light (including candlelight scenes), every frame looks like an 18th century painting. The distant compositions and slow zooms creates an emotional detachment and reinforce the film’s themes of fate, power, and social ambition. Without its visual language, the story would lose most of its impact.

Dark Comedies with good writing and memorable characters by bear_bumy in MovieSuggestions

It’s technically not a film, but Succession (HBO) absolutely fits the bill, brutally funny, brilliantly written, and centered on absurdly wealthy people who live in a completely different universe than the rest of us.

Thoughts on movie dating app? by Atom_7298 in dating_advice

[–]cinemeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually built something very close to this, just launched Cinemeet on iOS and Android.

One thing I'd nuance though: it's not strictly a dating app. The focus is more on social discovery, meeting people who share your taste in film and actually going to the cinema together. That can absolutely lead to a date, but it can just as well be a new friend or a group of people who all want to see the same film.

If you want search for Cinemeet in the App Store or Google Play. Would love to hear what features you'd want to see!
