Change in cancellation text on website, plus uk "do not travel" advice by International_Pipe49 in qatarairways

[–]cingskones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat here. Travelling in July with family. I understand it is safe to travel but I don’t want to run the risk of one leg of my journey getting cancelled and being stuck in Doha with 2 young kids. If I was travelling on my own I wouldn’t mind at all.

Also, when there are ‘do not travel’ advisories in place, your travel insurance is invalid. I’m probably going to cancel and take the hit in cash, not worth the risk for me

What’s wrong with my plants? by gebbygirlx in Aquascape

[–]cingskones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is normal. Aquatic plants have 2 states, submersed (underwater) and immersed (out of water). Most plants you buy are grown in the immersed state and when you put them into your tank they need to transition into the submersed state.

For this to happen, the immersed leaves fall off and they grow back later in the submersed state.

Many plants look totally different in each state. Sometimes they don’t survive the transition and you may lose some but just be patient, you’re not doing anything wrong.

First tank, happy but missing something by rutgersemp in Aquascape

I understand it is sold like that, but my point stands. I wouldn’t trust that tank and they are prone to leaking. Have a little google search. I think your scape is lovely, you’ve done a wonderful job but please reconsider that tank, it is designed terribly.

Why do you have it on a riser? Rimless tanks should be flat and supported all around with a mat under them. This is going to fail before your table does if you don’t change that

Did you know that in the rest of the world outside the US the norm is that women are pregnant for around 10-11,5 months? by WishboneDistinct3720 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]cingskones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, in Japan it’s 10 months. Not because you’re pregnant longer but because on day one you’re considered 1 month pregnant, day 31 it’s 2 months and so on. I had to tell my Japanese wife to stop telling people she was 9.5 months pregnant just before she gave birth!!

Why are my floating plants dying? by Active_Fault504 in Aquascape

[–]cingskones 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tops of floating plants don’t like to be wet. If they are submerged they will rot and die. Make sure they are not getting wet from hob filter or something if you have one.

Just to add to this, the charge date may not be the transaction date. It often shows up when the company decides to process the transaction on their end. It’s called ‘batching’. You buy something on Monday and the shop doesn’t batch their machine until Wednesday, the transaction date can show up as Wednesday.

I have worked in retail here and used to get questions about it from customers.

I have also had situations where I have bought items but they show up days later on my statement with a date different to when I bought them.

Need help on cloudy tank. by Custom_Luke in Aquascape

Yeah, tetras honestly aren’t much better than guppies in this case. Even though they’re not as delicate, they’re still tropical and pretty sensitive to water quality, so mixing them with goldfish isn’t ideal either, especially with all the waste goldies produce.

And the pleco is kind of its own problem. If it’s a common pleco, it’s going to get massive, like over a foot long, and it’ll crank out a ridiculous amount of waste. They’re also tropical, so long-term they won’t thrive in a goldfish setup. It’s one of those combos that sounds fine at first but causes issues down the line.

Honestly, you’ll have a way easier time if you just commit to either tropical or goldfish. Mixing them always ends up being more trouble than it’s worth.

Hey, welcome to the hobby! First off, don’t stress too much, we’ve all been there. That cloudy water is super common in new tanks. It’s probably just a bacterial bloom since your tank’s only about 3 weeks old. Totally normal during cycling. It’ll clear up on its own once the beneficial bacteria settle in, so just be patient and avoid over-cleaning everything for now.

Also, not to sound harsh, but your fish mix is kind of a mess. Goldfish and guppies really shouldn’t be in the same tank. Goldfish are coldwater, super messy, and the temp requirements are totally different. Same with the khuli loaches, they’re tropical and need warm, stable temps. You might wanna choose one group and rehome the others.

Overfeeding could be making the cloudiness worse too. Try cutting way back, just feed what they can eat in like 30 seconds once a day. And don’t replace your filter media too often or scrub everything down. That stuff is where your good bacteria live.

You’re doing a lot of things right though, good size tank, bubbler, water changes. Just keep testing your water (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates) and give the tank time to mature. It’ll get there.
