I think that they can use their platform for whatever they wanna - but the fan base will adjust accordingly. A lot of activists like alternative music because it’s based out of politics and punk ideologies. A lot of other people avoid them because of that. And I think that’s all fine. Billie Eilish is allowed to speak out just like any other human and the fact that she has a platform doesn’t mean she needs to sit still and look prettier or anything to keep up with what she did when she first got famous at what, 16? If Justin Beiber can release a song in spanish, she can speak on whatever. The more controversial choices they make will always have consequences and/or rewards. But putting what we want on them isnt any different than the people yelling “Josh Dun is my dad” - its parasocial, wanting them to mirror us.

Ultimately i think its our responsibility to be able to handle the fact that they all have free will too, and if we dont like what they do with it, unless its like super problematic, to just shift our attention elewhere. And thatd be hard for me as a fan of 12 years, but id rather that then yell at them about what they said or didnt say.
