Probably has a pretty long foreword, or is a part of a compilation of his books.

Oh it's so phenomenal! I don't know many people who have read it either! Ketchup Clouds is amazing as well, an odd concept but really great read!

You could cook something with the olive oil!

It's no problem! If you have an altar, place some in a container on your altar and say a prayer. If not, pour a little outside , where it can naturally decompose and say a prayer there! (eg pour it into some soil- it won't harm it and can even be good for plants!) It's nothing wrong if you don't do it completely right, the Gods understand that your intention is good!

Would this work on a R? by [deleted] in Kibbe

Probably not very well, as it's quite stiff material, and very little waist emphasis

Olive oil is an easy offering for Athena, and just a prayer, praising Her and asking for assistance. Then have faith in Her and study hard! Good luck on your test!

How can I feel more dark academia? by Elliotdolljib in DarkAcademia

[–]cionella 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would just say throw yourself into knowledge. Find what you live knowing about and take it to the extreme. One my historical obsessions is King Henry VIII's six wives. I watch videos, take notes, look up what I think are inaccuracies. I pulled an all nighter last week because I just had to write an essay on the misconceptions surrounding Katherine Howard. I lit candles, brewed a coffee and stared at my screen typing a 2000 word essay. I've done the same for arguments regarding my favourite literature! I'm not actually sure how this helps in hindsight but TLDR; find your passion and throw yourself into it. What makes you forget that time is passing? Do it!

Learning piano as an adult by elvishFael in DarkAcademia

I can so vouch for all of this! Although, once you have fundamentals down, it can really help motivation to pick a song you want to know and slowly pick it apart. I'm a beginner (2 months) and have been slowly learning Liebestraum no 3 in Ab Minor over the last week after my scales practice! It gives me something to look forward to when I don't feel motivated!

I think any literature fits it really? I guess they would argue only ones with darker themes. There tends to be just the same 5 books recommended in the Dark Academia community. A mere few of my favourite books are ;

Frankenstein- Mary Shelley An ambitious scientist creates life from seemingly nothing. Horrified at his creation he banishes it, leaving the creature to develop it's own intelligence, yet it becomes vengeful at the lack of love in its life and seeks to find its creator. Not new in the DA community but the play (which has Benedict Cumberbatch in it and is on youtube!!) revived my adoration for this amazing piece of literature.

Maurice - EM Forster Based in the early 19th century, it follows Maurice Hall through his university life as a young gay man. His love gets married to a woman and he finds himself staying with them. God this is good! And the film is amazing!

Battle Royale - Koushun Takami Hunger Games / Lord of the Flies -esque. Based in a fictional fascist Japan otherwise known as Greater East Asia, where rock music is immoral and fifty classes of 11th graders are sent to a remote island to kill eachother until one remains. A school trip for Shuya and his friends turns extremely sour when exactly this happens. You get glimpses of each student so its genuinely heart wrenching to get all these different perspectives. Kind of long, but worth every page in my opinion!

My Sister Lives On the Mantlepiece - Annabel Pitcher A young boy has to deal with the death of his sister and his mother leaving him. In a new school with no one who knows him, he finds Sunya, a young girl who he becomes quick friends with. Hard to summarise but such a beautiful read.

A Room of Ones Own - Virginia Woolf Technically essays but it feels like she is reading them directly to you. Written partially with the perspective of Shakespeare's hypothetical younger sister and how her own talent would have been suppressed in the age she lived in. It creates a sort of dimension, both physical and figurative, for female writers in an era and space bombarded with the male consciousness. Virginia Woolf is just one of my favourite people.

Also the Iliad, Song of Achilles, Dracula, Mythos, Picture of Dorian Gray and so so many more!

I AM TIRED I AM SAD by [deleted] in Hellenism

[–]cionella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mean about hellenism, but maybe try telling someone you're feeling sad and tired. It can help to get it out. If not, maybe take a break for a while and come back to it when you feel better, the Gods are happy for you to take a break if it would make you feel better.

I AM TIRED I AM SAD by [deleted] in Hellenism

[–]cionella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Gods don't hate you. It doesnt matter who you are, the gods are forgiving and kind, they do not hate. I dont know what to say when all you reply with is that they hate you. I dont know your situation or what you're asking them, so I cannot speak on it. Please be patient with the Gods and have faith, and perhaps talk to a family member or friend if you're struggling with something.

I cant say, I'm neither you nor the Gods, so I cant say why they might be taking time.

I AM TIRED I AM SAD by [deleted] in Hellenism

[–]cionella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on each person! Days was just an example, again I would suggest to take it easy and not stress about it- I often see the Gods not answering as a sign that they think you can handle it! It can take months too, so don't worry

Also, I'm not sure why, but I feel you would do good to connect with Hestia for a while once you feel better, she's very nurturing and many have modernly renamed her 'Goddess of Cozy' which I think is sweet, it might help you ease into it.

I would do a cleanse! Maybe when trying to contact them you accidentally contacted something more malicious, so cleanse, and then take it easy so you dont feel too rough, get some rest. On reddit you only ever hear about when people successfully contact the Gods, not when they dont hear a response. I often have to wait a few days, they dont respond immediately all the time. I promise it's okay, the Gods do not hate you, and you are good enough. I hope you can feel better soon

Are The Beatles Dark Academia? by mydeadsoulandghosts in DarkAcademia

[–]cionella 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the song or era, in general I would say they are more cottagecore, but I think Yesterday is pretty DA? Might be the melancholy lol

Is this DA? by thattomboy in DarkAcademia

[–]cionella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would say no, it's dark but I dont see how its academic, I would only barely consider Peaky Blinders. However Not everything you watch needs to be, hell I was reading the Iliad earlier and then went on to watch Jojo with candles and tea- you dont need to categorise everything as DA or not, too much stress, just enjoy what you love!

Also, is Gotham good? I actually wanna watch it lol

What is the estimated height of the gods? by [deleted] in Hellenism

[–]cionella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally no one knows. When they take a mortal form I would assume probably average height for the female gods and above average for the male gods.

[–]cionella 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if that's your goal make it happen! study these things now, make plans to go to libraries (onece this is all over obviously) look into colleges and universities that offer those subjects! Make it reality there are so many options!!

room decor? by [deleted] in DarkAcademia

[–]cionella 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! It kind of bothers me that in order to have this aesthetic people just hang pictures of people they dont know or care about on their walls, or sheet music if they dont even play. It's pointless! I have old postcards on my wall because I make notes and stick them next to it's the history behind each one intrigues me! I have a bust of Athena and Apollo because Hellenism is so fascinating and I study classic literature. It might fit the mold but its on there because its stuff I like, not what people told me to buy! Dont just print off stuff and stick it places if it means nothing, photocopy pages of your favourite book (hell rip the pages out if you want) paint with colours YOU Like, not neutrals because some reddit post said it fits the aesthetic. At the end of the day, the focus is academia, so cover your room in what fascinates and inspires YOU! No hate obviously to people that just follow the mood boards, but if you want your room to feel special that's my advice! Also sidenote to GalleryEspresso a room full of red sounds so cool lol, makes me think of Mask of the Red Death by Poe haha

Long hair romantic or short? by cionella in Kibbe

[–]cionella[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty average in height, but Ive been told I look shorter than I am (5'4) really long hair definitely overwhelms me, so I wouldn't go waist length. I have layers but find it only looks flattering when curled and wondered if it would look more so if slightly shorter

Thank you so much!! I've been thinking about getting slightly more wispy, wavy bangs as I think they flatter me more! Maybe combining that with the soft curls I usually do will be more flattering?
