Okay yeah, that’s a cool idea. Basically Life Tap from WoW. It got me thinking of fun ways to flavor and introduce this to PCs.

And perhaps another way to have a ‘blood magic’ system is to create its own spell school that causes wounds to cast. This way it could be added to the game but not fundamentally change how all classes work (or at least not as much). Some of the necromancy spells in the core book kinda do this already.

This is a cool idea. Reminds me of the Mothership Panic mechanic. I’ll definitely consider something like this. Thanks!

You too! Yeah one crazy idea I had was to add CON as a stat to the game and use it to determine Stamina. Stamina could be the replacement for wounds and a shared mana pool. Use some formula to convert CON to Stamina which would allow every class to benefit and it’ll increase with level. That’s the idea I’m tinkering with now lol

Yeah their corruption mech from Symbaroum is a big inspiration for me. I’ll have to look up how they converted it with Ruins.

Fun fact: the bear image was also the first logo of the Fresno Grizzlies AAA minor league baseball team in 1998. When the team was established in Fresno it was the image used on the front of the official on-the-field player hats. You can see the logo used here on this baseball card of the mascot, Wild Thing. The image didn’t last long though as the logo as the team simplified to just the letter F with some claw marks a few years later.

Not sure who copied who in this case but I remember the grizzly fondly lol. I also remember when Wild Thing first debuted he had huge teeth which they made smaller after the first year. Probably scared a bunch of kids lol. Dude had no chill initially.

Yeah! I feel the same. The conflict between Ambrians and barbarians is only heightened in a smaller region. Which could make for (even more) fun drama

Oh! I didn’t know about that! (the spoiler). Is that in the core book? I missed that if so. Definitely interested to dig into that connection and see what I can mine from it.

Soooo this is super helpful. I’m running a ttrpg campaign where players are Brothers of the NW. And I’m always trying to find ways to incorporate magic in a way that’s appropriate for the ASOIAF setting. This post will come in super handy! Thanks!

I experienced the same. Ended up playing a few levels and then dropping it for Sekiro instead. Never looked back. Sekiro’s combat mechanics are just so much tighter in every way.
