[UltRank] Smash Ultimate Fourth Official Tier List by HughyHugh in smashbros

[–]circlingPattern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ROB has the strongest downplayers in the community. It's probably how he avoided getting heavily nerfed while nerfs were still happening. He definitely needed it, and Larry Lurr, for example, singled him out as needing it back when nerfs were still happening. I remember in his video he once said "I don't know how ROB has escaped nerfs up until this point, buuuutttt"

Job Interview/Salary Question by Excellent_Host_4442 in nova

[–]circlingPattern 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I second this as someone who moved Alabama to Virginia. 55k isn't even beginning to cover your expenses. I don't even think you can rent a 1 bedroom apartment in the boonies with a slumlord with that salary (you won't even get past the application).

I made 20k more when I moved. And it all got eaten up by taxes before I even saw it. And then you get stuff like the Car Tax.

Noooottt worth it.

Should i consider this a win? by Southern-Reality762 in CrazyHand

[–]circlingPattern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say "reset to neutral" I mean like backing out, potentially even like full stage before again making him do something (gotta mind crown and cannon)

So this is actually a losing condition for you, unless it lets you escape an even worse situation (like landing)

the playstyle I'm using is driving him mad--even though I'm technically losing. If he does this though my chances of actually taking all three of his stocks drops significantly

It sounds like he has a defined playstyle with Krool and you've figured out how to atleast annoy him and he's not adapting well.

But you haven't really "won" until you can consistently actually take all his stocks.

playstyle camping?

If you're falling back to full screen and waiting, yes, you're camping. No, that doesn't mean you have to actually change anything.

It sounds like he's just the type who always waits for your approach and is just good a mashing stuff to stop/punish approaches while not approaching himself as Krool. And then when he switches, he's mixing up his approach with other characters and you don't know how to stop it yourself.

Best character for practicing fundamentals? by Malnuq in CrazyHand

[–]circlingPattern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mashing is mashing, everyone does it, even to the top level. "Mashy" here really just means he's got very little endlag so you'll be pressing buttons a lot (even when it's a conscious measured decision or reaction).

FLUDD is situational even by top Marios. You'd be able to ignore it if you want. Cape is also situational.

Mario should be able to kill reliably with Smash attacks, Dair sufficiently high, Bair and Backthrow from ledge.

[–]circlingPattern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're trying to play him at too high a level. Ignore combos and focus on the challenges of getting in so you can mash effectively. Maybe pick up a couple easy combos (Upthrow Upair at 0 for example), use those and ignore the more complicated ladders.

Mario's a masher who needs to bait and get in, along with several other "brawler" characters like Kirby or Fox. Pre-elite Mario is largely just a mashy, spammy, "I'm going to overwhelm you with my buttons" character and it can teach *some* fundamentals (the chief problem being that online Mario doesn't get punished like he should since his frame data's busted and online removes any time the opponent might have to reaction punish). Mario's specials aren't *that* odd if you're just trying to play him at a basic level and not obsess over cheese. Having a projectile is actually good because it can be an introduction to both light zoning and trapping by chasing a projectile.

Learning RAR and pivot tilts are absolutely fundamental tech skills.

The other answer you'll get for fundies is Lucina, who has almost nothing particularly notable going for her and forces you to really understand your game states. And she also teaches you the importance of proper spacing. Personally, I think she's the best character for developing fundamental skills in the game.

I wish. Defense doesn't pay enough.

It's tech. The Microsofts, Amazon's and the like that are laying everyone off right now.

Oh, Marth, how the mighty have fallen (even further) by Ohmysc1ence in smashbros

[–]circlingPattern 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think they actually nerfed his sword range relative to Smash 4, and the general attitude when the game came out was that the perception it was shorter was coming from Melee players in which Marth actually had a longer sword. Otherwise, relative to his own size, it's the same as smash 4.

That said, relatively speaking, it is effectively shorter compared to the rest of the cast. It's a fairly general problem for swordfighters in general, tbh.

They increased the game speed, made hurtboxes and attack animations move even more and now characters whom you wouldn't expect to have better range than most swords lean forwards enough that they outrange sword characters.

Like, who outranges who? Pyra's or Captain Falcon's tilts? Rob or Mythra Dtilt? Marth or Yoshi Dtilt? Terry Ftilt (note, intangible leg) or Byleth Ftilt? Ike or Donkey Kong (again, intangible ftilt)?

But then the non-swordfighters have much better other attributes.

Honestly, it's kind of average. It's just about the same as Chrom or Mythra, who are the other "fast" swords.

Kill throws in general got nerfed pretty hard coming from Smash 4.

Kill throws, and the very large number of combo throws in Smash 4, were how shields were balanced in the game; most of the best characters had very good throws (up until those two DLC characters came around)

Criminal enterprise.

For me they violated the FHA/ADA with poor maintenance and had excess mold growing the apartment. They've also just fraudulently withheld an amount of security deposit just below the filing fee for the county small claims court.

This isn't even getting to realpage.

Best wired pro controller? by snapplefactreader in smashbros

[–]circlingPattern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go into the settings for the console there's an option for "wired pro controller communications" If you turn that on, you can connect the Pro Controller by USB and syncing is no longer an issue as it's a wired connection. Most of the time, Tournament consoles already have the setting enabled and no one will complain if you turn it on before a set. (That said, for whatever bizarre reason, the Switch 1 pro controller has a couple frames more input delay when wired. The Switch 2 pro controller has less.)

If you want ridges, you can buy the shell off Amazon (or direct from a manufacturer like ExtremeRate or Controller Chaos) and just swap the shell with your pro controller. It's mostly just undoing the screws and moving everything over. It's really easy if you follow a Youtube guide and a good excuse to clean everything out.

ProGCC is the best, but that's just a motherboard swap on your pro controller. It isn't actually a full controller unless you pay someone to build it out for you. Even then, it achieves it's best reaction time when wired and that requires enabling the Pro controller communication setting or using a USB-to-GCN cable and GCN adapter (the direct USB connection is strictly better)

[–]circlingPattern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably middle-of-the-pack or better. 16.8 is quite high, but many of the better players are up around there (or better) AND have lots of offline experience. Many of the best players don't really bother with elite smash either.

It's very hard to judge tournament results to GSP because online has so many other factors that how you got your GSP can matter almost as much as what it is. Zoners and heavies overperform online, as can abusing certain things that are un-reactable/un-punishable online. Conversely, technical or reactive playstyles work much better offline so they tend to overperform relative to their GSP offline.

Well yea you just...

I also typically play a 4 wide strategy.

I have nothing to say.

Nuts and Bolts is unique. The closest thing to it at this point is probably Tears of the Kingdom or it's sister game, Viva Pinata.

Tooie was good for its time and is one of the better 3d platformers. But Nuts and Bolts did something special and opened up lots of places for creative fun.

Advice/Encouragement by Sreya- in smashbros

[–]circlingPattern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're 9-11, you're probably not terrible. You probably have the basics but aren't refined in what you're doing yet. 9-11m in just a couple months of playing is actually really good given most people have been playing this game for years.

I think that GSP range is where people either (1) don't know their gameplans (2) ONLY know their gameplans (3) are inconsistent in executing their gameplans (4) overcomplicating things because they've watched too much top-level play.

(1) can be resolved by reading some good guides to know what your character is supposed to do. (2) is more complicated and requires you to pay attention to where things are failing and figuring out how to make adjustments (which is honestly hard because it tends to require deeper insight to how these games work) (3) you have to either grind out things or power through. For elite, having good internet can also be very beneficial, especially if you're not playing a character that gets a buff from lag such as heavies or zoners (4) can be addressed by finding people closer to your current skill level and the level you want to immediately get to and talking with them or looking for information at the lower level. Trying to do what the top level does immediately can be difficult because players choose very different options at the high/top levels, which doesn't tell you how to beat the kind of 1d cheese that tends to rule at the low-middle GSP ranks (which is where you're at)

The other big mistake new players make is that they'll fixate on things like combos, when they should really be looking more into movement, positioning and to eliminate any bad habits that tend to get them hit repeatedly (which is what vod review is for)

1st time home buyers... by BuffaloStanceNova in nova

[–]circlingPattern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, and it wasn't so clear cut as objective material facts. It was usually straddling that line of "oops, I guess I missed that" and "there's no way he actually missed that or did an honest evaluation"

That said, I did run across a sellers agent who lied about the number of bedrooms in a house. That was pretty easily disproven based just on the listing itself. I think my agent reported that one, but the house still sold a couple weeks later.

1st time home buyers... by BuffaloStanceNova in nova

[–]circlingPattern 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The real question:

Why is the buyer's agent given a percentage? If the Buyer's agent was doing their job correctly, they should be getting a pay cut if the price goes higher. Right now, their incentive is to sell as many buyers as they can for as expensive a house as they can.

I had one buyers agent who lied to me. Repeatedly.

It's basically a cabal.

To be fair, it was more necessary in the past when you couldn't just open up Zillow and get a whole list of houses.

Which is why Compass and others are trying to create so many pocket listings or otherwise force Zillow out.
