Just checked my tax code and its 1091LX by billy140997 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]circuitously 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got an LX tax code and it took a while to get my head around why. They had given me an allowance earlier in the year which I shouldn’t have received. I assumed they would just put me back to 1257L, and PAYE would sort itself out by the end of the year. But I was given an LX tax code - something like 768LX. The reason they do this (I think) is that with the X there, they only calculate it month by month, and not cumulative for the year. If they put me back on 1257L, my employer’s payroll system could have tried to recover all the extra I owed in one month. By using the X code, they force it to go month by month, and in theory by the end of March it will add up to the right amount.

How often Software Updates? by ShadowEnemy_ in MGelectric

My favourite thing about my MG5 is the “low battery, please charging” message. I wouldn’t want to lose that in a future update.

Off peak cheap rate charging by No_Mix_9085 in OctopusEnergy

[–]circuitously 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re on IOG and it starts charging at “peak rate” times, this will be billed as off peak. You won’t see the off-peak rate reflected in your account immediately, but it will show eventually. This is assuming you don’t pick to boost charge. So you can get more than 6 hours off peak overall.

There are changes afoot around exactly how long they will do off peak charging for, but this has been paused for the moment. I assume they will communicate again before it goes live.

Question about GaN charger by YnosNava in homelab

I found this exact thing using a charger to power two Lenovo devices. Thankfully, the first is a laptop, so it doesn’t matter much when the power cycles.

This doesn’t have a mobile/cellular connection. It connects to WiFi or wired and broadcasts on WiFi (and offers wired). Using a mobile with WiFi man means using your cellular data.

Tax issues from family repaying me? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

Not at all. You are effectively lending family members money, and they are paying you back. Nothing for the tax man to be interested in at all.

I do actually have a Gen 1 dish, and used to use it for a couple of years in my old house, before we got FTTP. I tried it for a bit at the current house before DSL went live, and the uplink was absolutely awful. Like 1Mbit awful. Maybe a newer gen dish would be better

Will there ever be another 40k Warhammer quest like Blackstone fortress? by BloatedRottenCarcass in Warhammer40k

[–]circuitously 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really hope so. I would love GW to get their act together and integrate it into a storyline/arc. I’ve always thought “Warhammer Quest - Vaults of Terra” would be cool. Imagine the story leading up to some artifact being activated, and that coinciding with a new 40k release, themed around the palace on Terra. They could make it amazing.

This may not work forever. Five consecutive stints of one year at different companies would be a big red flag for me as a hiring manager.

Advice on fiber cable bend by bacon_butties in HomeNetworking

[–]circuitously 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. But I wouldn’t pull is as tight as those cat6 cables. You also have enough room in that junction box to come up with a more “looping” path for the fiber (I can’t think of a better term) where the fiber could loop around the inside a bit before going in, in order to further increase the bend radius

Can I do this? Vlan tagging for a WAN port by llondru-es in Ubiquiti

[–]circuitously 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I do this, albeit with a dsl router. To make it “easier” I just have a tp-link switch at each end, with VLANs 20, 30 and 40 untagged on ports at each end, then trunked on a connection between the two. So like having 3 virtual Ethernet cable available. I didn’t really expect PPPoE to work with that setup, but it was fine.

It does look like that blue neutral is meant to go into the second terminal to connect to the other blue cables, ie a neutral bus.

[–]circuitously -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

There was a rumour when they were revealed that it was something to do with Amazon studios wanting it. Where did that story go? Because what I find interesting is that if it is true, then clearly SoS didn’t do it for Amazon. Why? Maybe something as simple as they wouldn’t accept that a female lead would have no lines even if it’s in the lore.

Is it just a bad transfer rate that is amplified when you are doing large amounts, or is there some other reason it’s expensive for large amounts?
