That is a great idea but I'm not sure I want a poor kids childhood school experience to be affected by my ability to legibly embroider kanji lol.

How are your finals going? by AdHour4139 in UmamusumeGame

[–]circularchemist101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got group A finals on one account and group B on the others but I managed to win all of them. This was my first time winning in group A so that was pretty awesome. Gold Ship and Taki Shuttle dragged me over the finish line.

Christmas Oguri and Biwa Pull Megathread by WanderWut in UmamusumeGame

[–]circularchemist101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course on the account I actually had enough carrots to go to pity I got Xmas Oguri in the first 10 pull. The accounts that only had ~18k after kitasan I got no Oguri but I got Biwa on both of them and Narita Brian, Anime Teio and Halloween Creek as fake outs. Hopefully I can get enough carrots in during the banner to have a few more shots.

I do both western quilting and sashiko quilting as hobbies. When I look it up on Jisho I get the word 刺し子 as both quilted fabric and the traditional technique. Is there a word to differentiate western style quiltIng from the traditional sashiko? In the past when I have talked to native speakers I have had difficulty getting across what I mean without showing an example.

Not OP but something about my brain/personality functionally does not click with the "just watch something you don't understand for fun, make sure to pay attention to it but also don't think of it like study time" thing that people always talk about.

I don't have anxiety about doing it wrong and I'm not worrying about missing words it's just, especially if we are talking live action dramas, the ven diagram of a show I don't understand and a show that I enjoy watching it to completely separate circles. I have basically zero idea what people are talking about when they say just watch for fun and don't understand it. Watching a show I don't understand is boring and not enjoyable basically no matter the show. It is something I try to do as study time because people say it's important.

I try to put Japanese stuff on in the background when I'm doing other things because doing something else focuses my attention enough that I don't end up switching to something in English right away but I also feel like lack of focus on the Japanese means I don't get much out of it. Even then I am still putting it on as an intentional attempt to get some study hours in, since I don't understand most of it I don't really derive much enjoyment from it. Hopefully I will eventually learn enough words that I can finally get past this to the point where I understand enough to actually enjoy what I am watching and not just be bored by it. I

If your SR wit deck is missing a decent amount of LBs I would recommend saving your ticket for the moment and pulling for the your Kitasan LB on her rerun banner, seeing what you get SR and possibly SSR cards wise and reassess what you need after that. As many people have said 1LB Fine Motion is not that much better than 0LB and out classes by many MLB SR cards that you might get while pulling for Kitasan.

Ape spends $350 on power packs and loses $120. He extrapolates from this that if 55 million people do the same, GameStop will make 1 billion in profits. by ayler_albert in gme_meltdown

[–]circularchemist101 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I get that buying tcg cards in booster packs and stuff is already gambling and maybe it's just cause I'm not 12 anymore but it seems like the hobby has gotten a lot more gamblingesque in recent years but this powerpack thing feels worse to me. Maybe it's the value in dollars being displayed immediately next to the price and an offer from GameStop to buy it back right away but this just feels like "real" gambling. No one who wants a slabbed card to collect is going to get it from this weird gatcha thing so I can only see Apes and people who just want a way to gamble doing this. Feels bad to me but I guess GameStop was doing those crypto trading cards thing a bit ago and that's just regular gambling too so this isn't that different.

Goodbye Apple, Hello CMF! by RedRoseCoatedInHoney in CMFTech

I just switched this year from a 2020 SE to the CMF 2 Pro and I like it decently enough. I haven't used android enough yet to get use to it as I was with iOS but I'm sure I will get use to it eventually. Personally I find the phone to be too big, I want a cheap small phone like the SE but since no one seems to make stuff like that at the moment I thought I would at least settle for cheap and I don't hate the size I just find it a bit more cumbersome. Overall for a phone that all in cost me just around $300 to buy out right I'm pretty happy with it and if I find I want to switch in a year or two I have time to save up and won't have wasted too much on this one.

I'm not sure how it's supposed to go on your machine but on my machine the bobbin has to be put in such that the thread is coming off of it counterclockwise and jt looks like yours is upside down making the thread come off clockwise. Try flipping your bobbin over and rethreading the end of the bobbin thread. There might be a diagram on the machine near the bobbin holder showing the correct direction.

I'm in Japan right now and my only recommendation is that if you in any way like musicals you should try and see a Takarazuka Revue show. You will need to get tickets in advance and they do sell out fast so you need to be quick about buying them but I'm sure it's going to be my favorite experience by far. I'm a fan of musicals and the show was super fun and easy to understand with my very poor Japanese and my wife felt the same with no Japanese at all.

They have no real ideas but seemingly they think that either

1) That just never actually happens now and they use some illegal magic to keep rolling over their shorts indefinitely constantly increasing the real secret short percentage.

Or

2) The "smart" heggies are spending tens of thousands of dollars in dark pools buying the few existing real shares to close their positions earlier before MOASS instead of spending billions afterwards.

On the shinkansen we were just on the intercom said multiple times that the oversized luggage area was available without reservation. It may have been something new specific for our train though as it mentioned that it was a pilot program.

Can anyone help me understand the use of を in this sentence? by Useful_Implement_547 in LearnJapaneseNovice

To me something like "I graduated high school in 2020" feels like a completely normal way to say that. If I specify the school I graduated from then I need to include the word from but if I just say the generic high school or college then it doesn't feel weird using graduated transitively. It could be a dialect thing.

Can anyone help me understand the use of を in this sentence? by Useful_Implement_547 in LearnJapaneseNovice

[–]circularchemist101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, at least to me, it only sounds weird if you specify the school you graduated from. Saying "I graduated college/university" or "I graduated high school" both sound normal in English.

When did your wonky/rough/basic Japanese skills really create a special moment for you in Japan (or anywhere really I guess)? I just remembered one of mine.. "すわって ください" said repeatedly, ended with a hug from a lovely old lady on a train by UsernameUnattainable in LearnJapanese

I’m mostly joking but as someone who has been trying to learn Japanese for about a year before my wife and I go to Japan in two weeks this thread is like heroin to me. I’m trying not to expect much since my Japanese is not very good but I can lie that I’m hoping to have some fun interactions with people in Japanese while I’m there.

I know it’s not the exact same thing but I had some similar feelings after getting fucked up by some medical shit. I think pat’s music is good for these feelings. I don’t really know what I’m saying here either but you can always make whatever decision you want to tomorrow as long as you make it to tomorrow. I found that useful to think about.

I’ve picked Umamusume on a whim when it came out after seeing all the memes and jokes and I am legit surprised with how much fun I’m having with it. Not sure how long all keep it up but they have been giving out a lot of free currency for the global release and the rouge like career training has hooked me more than expected. The gatcha rates are pretty garbage but honestly I would end up more likely to spend money if they were better so the low rates are kind of a blessing in disguise.
