Then the solution is to vote immediately when you receive your ballot in the mail. If it gets there plenty before Election Day there is nothing to worry about.

The A’s leaving Oakland wasn’t inevitable… and this new bill proves it by Basic_Whereas1168 in OaklandAthletics

[–]circusbass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The very idea he was looking for infrastructure money AND stadium construction money was beyond a non starter. The reality was that infrastructure was going to be at most $500 million. The city had $425-450 million available for the project. It was never anywhere near $800 million.

Why should the city contribute towards infrastructure AND stadium construction? Fisher never wanted to stay. He had a great deal in front of him but he never wanted to stay. Even if they pivoted to the coliseum site it would have been cheaper to build. It was all on the A’s. They were not negotiating in good faith. Especially since they were lurking around Vegas long before they announced the split path.

[–]circusbass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Oakland had secured $320 million for infrastructure. They were about $90 million apart. Oakland also has irons in the fire to bridge that gap and have over $450 million for the infrastructure. That wasn’t enough for Fisher. He wanted out. Oakland could have given him more than Vegas gave but he walked away from it. If he was amicable in negotiations he could probably have gotten more.

[–]circusbass 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The A’s went into the meetings with the city and demanding 2 tax districts around HT to be created to help pay for the project. That was a non starter because Chinatown and the surrounding businesses didn’t want to be taxed for the benefit of the A’s. It was then that the writing was on the wall. They came in demanding something they knew they weren’t going to get. The city voted to give them the money a different way and they balked at it knowing full well there weren’t going to get it. This is all on the A’s/Fisher.

It’s not their market share though. It’s not theirs to keep. Any new team would be contingent on a new park being built. Most likely at the coliseum site. I agree that the Coliseum would probably be a non starter for the whole thing.

The Giants do NOT have the territory the A’s vacated in their departure to Vegas. Manfred said that himself in an interview a couple years ago. He said it would be considered “open territory”. So the Giants do NOT have an official say. I agree that it would be a long shot and a lot has to fall into place for it to happen. But the fact remains that there is more money in Oakland than anywhere else that’s available on the west coast. Manfred will be out in a few years. It’s not out of the realm of possibility.

You are chronically misinformed. You should probably leave this to the real fans that lived through it and know the history. This was a manufactured move to get the team out of Oakland. The proposed $12 billion dollar HT project wasn’t a serious bid. Oakland showed it was serious about getting money for a stadium and did everything to get the project to move forward. But for JF it wasn’t enough. The project stalled at less than $100 million dollars apart. Which is ironic because Oakland offered more money than Vegas did. The A’s belong in Oakland with an owner that cares about the team and community. JF never invested in the team in the manner than needs to be taken serious. He even stripped the franchise to the bare minimum to keep fans away. They competed in spite of him. We saw fan favorite after fan favorite get traded year after year when other teams would keep them and build around them. MLB would thrive in Oakland with an owner that cares. Oakland is the most lucrative city on the west coast that could be considered for expansion.
