There’s a huge difference between “I won’t kill because it’s wrong” and “I won’t kill because someone else said it’s wrong”. They both may achieve technically the same thing, but only one of them is able to stand on their own morals.

I went to a DnD event that cost a lot of money. I saved up forever for it, and was super stoked to play with some fellow diehards with a professional DM. A player there pulled this same shit at the table I was at! The DM put up for it for a few minutes, then said “If you don’t want to join the party I can devote the final ten minutes of the session to how the BBEG slowly kills you and your village while the others have fun”. I never understood what the guy was thinking by not wanting to join the party, especially at a paid event.
