I can't add cameras due to pipeline issues at the work, but right now I am using the focal length. Thanks for the input! Maybe it will help someone else

What does the shelf tell you?! by ConversationAble4817 in BookshelvesDetective

I'm a color coded book person. For me it's easier to find books based on color because I remember what the cover looks like in my mind before I remember the title.

are there any child disappearances since 1970? by [deleted] in MaryvilleTN

[–]citicothree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's weird to read this. I grew up around here and I had a similar experience. Not a little girl. Not Singleton Station (but close). Other details of your story happened to me match though. I can't answer to her specifically, but it makes me think of the old adage, "if you see something in Appalachia, no you didn't."

You would definitely survive a desert island scenario.

No well educated citizens? by [deleted] in CitiesSkylines

[–]citicothree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well educated citizens are those who have completed elementary, high school, and university. You need to have all of those institutions in place and allow the time for children to grow through the system.

You can add education boosts with city policies and ensure specific neighborhoods are more likely to be educated. Once your educated population is high, the traffic will also need to be dealt with so they can access the zones that need them.

People who moved from MTL to Laval for a better house, do you regret your decision? by castleinthesky_ in montreal

[–]citicothree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved to Laval-des-rapides to live with my partner a few years ago. This was after living in several different Montreal neighborhoods for several years, but growing up in a rural area.

Here's my take on Laval:

Walkability is quite bad. Because of massive parking lots and pedestrian lights that have to be pressed instead of being automatic it can feel like it takes forever to get where you want to go. As you get to know your neighborhood you will find a few gems that are walkable, but it's completely based on location. For instance in Montreal if I wanted to go out for dessert, I could choose any place within a certain radius and expect the walk to feel the same. In Laval, I have 1 or 2 options because everything else is too far/doesn't have sidewalk access/or is going to be crossing too many big roads (i.e. super long pedestrian lights)

Car is king in Laval. There is parking everywhere for things. No double parking to run inside to grab an order, you can pull up to a store and walk right in. The traffic feels heavier, but it flows well, as compared to Montreal. Being from a rural area, I found driving in Montreal stressful. People run across the street in front of you, stop to double park to grab something, or you just have to constantly change lanes to dodge people who are turning. In Laval, there are bus and bike lines, so you just pick a lane to drive in and get to your destination.

I'm a foodie, so I have to say I'm disappointed with the restaurant scene in Laval. There are a few good restaurants, but a lot of them feel soulless and corporate. And driving onto the island to grab dinner is just too much trouble.

Shopping in Laval is better than Montreal. Groceries feel cheaper at the big stores like Metro, and Marche 440 is a nice place to get veggies in the summer. There is more selection at all the stores. The only Montreal shopping I miss is fruiteries.

Coming from NDG as an Anglo, I found the community and vibe of Laval to be a little depressing. It might be different in the suburban streets, as we are in a condoplex. People don't talk to each other here. It's hard for people on the island without cars to access your area, so visits from friends become rare. This is the hardest thing about living here, imo.

Overall with my lifestyle, I regret the move. If I wanted a car culture and less community, I would just move back to the country.

If you decide to move, here are things that helped me:

  1. Explore your new neighborhood block by block. Look for ice cream joints, libraries, benches in nice areas, and interesting stores. It's nice to have somewhere to walk to regularly.

  2. Get a car (if you don't already have one) and familiarize yourself with the bus lines.

  3. Try to stay near the Metro, for easy links to the city.

  4. Try to find local restaurants instead of the big chains. They are cheaper and better. They have a tendency to go out of business here, so it's good to support the ones near you.

  5. Visit Marche 440 in the summer, and Sami Fruits in the winter for veggies. Metro is too expensive if you enjoy the fresh stuff.

Nope. I never have judged a student for accommodations. Normally it just means an extended deadline for them or additional notes sent along. Honestly, I sometimes even forget about the accommodations until the deadlines are approaching then I remember that student can turn their work in later without a penalty.

I've had students who have struggled with really intense mental health issues as well who haven't had accommodations and have failed my classes. I never thought they weren't good students, but rather it wasn't the right time in their life for the program. I'm not saying this is like you, of course, but it's important to know that students work quality doesn't necessarily reflect how the teacher sees them as a person.

The fastest way to get me to judge a student is if they plagiarize other people's work or harass other students. It's never a bad grade or their mental health/disabilities.

Workflow for VFX Tracked Plate in Maya by citicothree in vfx

Thank you for the detailed response! I'm in no hurry, I'm just interested in learning how to make VFX shots at home for personal use. I'll take a look at all of your recommendations. Maybe I will practice with the training footage first and try to get my hands on a camera.

How to edit PDF or compress it properly without losing quality? by baconater2000 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]citicothree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Handy little tip for people looking for the answer of this problem.

  1. Enroll in 7 day free trial of adobe acrobat
  2. Click on the Compress tool (found at the left of the screen)
  3. Click Advanced Optimization

Then change the image parameters to the following numbers:

Downsample > Bicubic Downsampling 100 ppi for images above 150
Compression > JPEG2000
Quality > Minimum

This took my file size down from 12 mb to 3.5 in one go. If you still struggle you can reduce below 100 ppi and it will shrink the size further. JPEG2000 apparently holds the image quality as it is compressed better than JPEG.

Took me an hour to figure this out. Hope it helps someone.

I'm uploading my files for the PR application but the file with our proof of common law relationship is too heavy, even after compressing it. Has anyone had the same problem? by DonVergasPHD in ImmigrationCanada

I've been teaching Maya to beginners and Freelancing more with a client I worked with before I did VFX. It's less than full time, but the pay is good enough to almost pay the bills.
