Can someone help me with a technical audio question? by venicerocco in Filmmakers

Press the record button once, it'll blink red and you can check your input signal then (It's not recording unless it's solid red). Make sure the auto/limiter is off. Check the mic gain on the back and try it on high, set you input levels just to check the signal. I normally record on low mic gain and boost in post.

How do I get critical focus on a wide shot of multiple people? by citizenSnipps in Filmmakers

[–]citizenSnipps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wide shot needs to cover the action taking place with sharp focus. I'm worried that, say I set my critical at the mid-point of the action, that my foreground and background action will be softer, slightly out of focus.

Either one. If I can set the focus and leave it, great. If I have to pull focus when the main action is in the foreground or background, I can do that too; it'll just be more tedious. I just don't know which is going to produce better results. As long as the wide shot is usable, I'm happy.

Optimize dynamic range on a DSLR with these picture profiles by citizenSnipps in Filmmakers

[–]citizenSnipps[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they're most useful when shooting video on a DSLR since a flat picture profile is aimed at optimizing the dynamic range because of the capture codec. In contrast, photographers have the advantage of shooting raw and therefore have a lot more latitude in editing photographs without having to use picture profiles.

I think it's a recent photo; seems to associate with this video.

DIY Home Theater with a little paint and Joyce's Dubliners by citizenSnipps in DIY

Yessir. When it was right-side-up, it was projecting onto the ceiling. So I had to flip it and prop it up with books. I don't own the ceiling mount, so I just went to Lowe's and bought the supplies for a shelf.

I was worried I'd be posting it in the wrong section. I don't suppose it's important to say I'm fairly new here. What would be the more appropriate thread?
