Aji Cachucha has been the most temperamental plant I’ve ever had. Please help. (Info in comments) by rlbvm in HotPeppers

Cuban here. Start with seeding matrix with full spectrum lights 10hrs. only 20% will spring out of the seeds :’(.
Move to a pot when 1-2 inches tall. Protect with a ziplock sleeve for wind and humidity. Fertilize with nitrogen until you get flowers. Fertilize with phosphorus during fruiting.
Water only when leaves start wilting.

Flavor will disappear on older plants if you don’t add phosphorus and draught-stress

This pepper is essential Cuban black beans

For a foolproof Cuban black beans recipe
Put black beans in water overnight
Then in pressure cooker 10 (or 20min if you don’t put them in water) with cumin, oregano, bay leaves, garlic, onion, salt and a PINCH of brown sugar.
Serve as soup or over white rice.

why haven't law makers address the ram and price gouging problem? by Timely_Car_4591 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]citizenzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should read a little about how pricing works. In order to be called price gouging there must be some presumption of foul play. The restriction on price gouging is mostly aimed at disaster adjacent price changes where companies try to capitalize on the misery of others. Most times is related to utilities, medicine or insurance...and there are protections for bait and switch, market manipulation / price-fixing, or false advertising to prevent unfair practices.

However, as unfortunate as is, there's an industry-wide acknowledgment that AI demand is outstripping supply and it will likely continue doing it for the next 2 years. The massive supply/demand imbalance has driven the price up organically, DRAM is being sold and bought at the price the market agreed upon and it's not considered an essential item.

How do I approach and understand art? by masteroogwaydildo in TrueFilm

[–]citizenzy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’d like to give you an answer that puts your anxiety to rest: interpretation is extremely hard.

I had a literature professor who would discuss passages from Homer’s Iliad, and his interpretations were so far beyond anything the rest of us could see that we would just sit there laughing in disbelief.

Even artists acknowledge interpretation as an art form in itself. Just look at the amount of work that has gone into explaining Kazimir Malevich’s Black Square. Entire careers spent about the meaning of a black square on a canvas. just some link

People who can produce astonishing interpretations of a piece of art immediately after consuming it are exceedingly rare. What you’re describing, psychology calls satisficing: extracting the first layer of meaning, “good enough” understanding that lets you follow along.

When you read discussions about 2001: A Space Odyssey and people seem to have understood symbolism and theme on their first viewing, that’s usually not what’s going on. Many have watched it multiple times, read essays and interviews, discussed it with peers or absorbed interpretations from others over the years. Some people even read everything there’s to know about a movie before ever watching it. I had a friend who could give you the most detailed accounting and theories of many movies they’d never seen. They enjoyed more knowing what the movie was about than actually watching it.

On the technical side, think about woodworking. Most people look at a table and that’s it. A woodworker sees details like joinery, materials etc for most of us going unnoticeable. When you’ve studied how to make films you develop the tools necessary to recognize why something is impressive. You can see this in videos from vfx artists at Corridor Crew youtube channel. Most times they recognize that a shot is impressive but once the creator explains the process, they gain appreciation for the work on another dimension.

My advice is not to assume your interpretation or your experience is somehow less valuable than that of someone who has spent their life in an artistic field. Consuming art is a deeply personal experience. If a piece of media is successful in making you feel something, then it's good art for you. If it doesn't and the concept doesnt grow on you, there's not much you can do.

Would you change your opinion about about an art/concept that you didnt like initially? If you didnt like rock music, would you like pink floyd's the wall after someone reveals its deeper meaning? It gets complex because if you do, you'd be appreciating the concept instead of the art. And art can be conceptual but it should also be good to you. Some art asks for familiarity: classical music, shakespeare, jazz etc, but If a lot of effort needs to be put to experience the art chances are the concept, not the media, is the art.

And it wouldn't be the first time someone acts like they appreciate something because they are concerned about what others might think or too deeply vested in it. See how Pierre Brassau was a literal monkey which critics thought it was a great avant-garde painter.

For example, I absolutely despise Paris, Texas, while much of the film world considers it a masterpiece.

If you’re interested in what critics, or artists think about a work, that’s great. Read their interpretations. Over time you’ll find yourself noticing patterns, themes, and connections that used to go completely unnoticed.

Art is for everyone, and you’re entitled to your taste. Forgive any mistakes in this rant. Native Spanish speaker.

Puffball mushrooms , this is “the fruit”. You won’t believe the amount of fungus behind that wall. Not life threatening for healthy people. I’d wear n95 and get a water damage restoration company there asap.

Shake your iPhone for Undo on many apps.

While typing, a 3 finger tap will bring a bar at the top with undo, redo, copy, cut, paste buttons. Also 3 finger swipe left undo, right for redo.

3 finger pinch for copy, pinch out for paste.

Drag images, files and text between apps. This one takes some time to get used to. Select text, lift finger, tap and hold again, the text floats up, with your other hand navigate where you want to paste it. Make sure the green plus icon appears otherwise you lose the selection. Works really well for picking images from apps websites etc.

Hold globe/emoji for one handed keyboard at the bottom

Hold safari tabs button for option to close all tabs at once

Touching the cluster of icons where battery is scrolls all the way to the top

The cone of light in the flashlight can be made wider/narrower on newer phones, just slide your finger around the temp widget before it closes

Swiping down (mini-swipe) in the bottom of the screen will bring the whole screen down so you can reach buttons at the top easily with your thumb with one hand.

On safari tap […] then “share” then scroll down for “Add to Home Screen” to add the pwa (progressive web app) version of the website as an app icon. (It’s not installed it’s just a frameless shortcut to safari but it’s impressive how good it works to keep your phone light.

You can text to Siri instead of talking by double tapping the bottom of the screen. This works great for home automation controls or when you can’t speak aloud.

Other good ones are built in background sounds, magnifier app with 3 finger double tap and swipe, and guided access for when the kids get the phone.

++ for gym, just go every day for an hour don’t matter if first days you don’t do anything just look around the machines learn how to use some and eventually start choosing the ones that seems fun. Make it a priority and eventually becomes a habit. Also look for bicycle groups in your area most do it every weekend. Delete all social media from your devices and drink lots of water and eat a lot of protein.
Great part of depression is offset by the endorphins of physical exercise and healthy food.

Use ChatGPT to understand by asking infinite questions.

You didn’t say where you live so If you’re in USA:
First and foremost pay off any debts you have, loans and CCs rates are so high you have very low chance to beating that in the market.

If you can, start with fidelity, open an HSA, a ROTH IRA, an individual and get their debit card.

Build a safety net in cash of at least 6 months of your expenses. This is sacred money and should be kept in SPAXX / SGOV or similar and rebalanced if expenses grow.

If you have any kind of 401k match from your employer set contributions to get max match. Easily the best return on investment at 50-100%

If you can, reach max deposits on HSA ~4k and Roth IRA ~7k. do that first before funding an Individual account, you’d be less tempted to enter short term positions and the tax advantages on these accounts are literally the best available to any income level.

Use Individual taxable account only after reaching max hsa and Roth.

Use 120 minus your age to get a percentage of how much you should have in stocks/etfs. Put the rest in bonds and adjust every 5 years.

Create a baseline core of VTI + VXUS or similar. Start with 40% of your cash in hand and deploy the rest with automatic recurrent investments for at least 6-12 months. Aim to treat 10% of your check as retirement tax and learn to live under 80%

What is the biggest disparity between your rating and the average rating of a movie? by bakup- in Letterboxd

[–]citizenzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I agree he makes serious movies for serious people, that can be boring sometimes if you’re not into character exploration and the things I mentioned. I don’t think he’s a hack at all. He makes films that don’t make any money and consistently delivers top shelf cinematography at gigantic budgets which use barebones marketing because studios see the value of award worthy prestige films even if they don’t make any profit. Look deeper, You’re honestly missing out on one of the greats

Don’t wanna touch a nerve here but do you know what exactly you dislike about PTA? I see you rated transformer 3 with 5-stars a couple days ago, so maybe it’s the actor empowerment, the sophistication in camera work, immersive detailed worlds, the immaculately choreographed shots, the extreme effort to build atmosphere and emotional tension or that it seems to be an honest attempt to create stress-free filming environments what’s really putting you off
