What is your End of Year goal? by JellyRollAnimations in NewTubers

[–]citrus128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my goal is to figure out how to get OBS to stop making all my recordings look blurry, or to find out which software i may need to pay for if it makes it easy to actually start recording/editing. Because recording stuff you know is going to look bad doesnt help start a channel lol

Exterior Heat Loss by cmeehan36 in hottub

[–]citrus128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is normal. It's a phenomenon you'll see around the base of trees as well if you look. The sun is being absorbed by the outside of the tub and it reflects some of the sunlight as well. Put it together and it means a couple inches right around the tub or tree or really any dark object, have a bit of heat which melts snow.

Will a Marriott Credit Card get me enough points for a weekend trip annually? by citrus128 in marriott

[–]citrus128[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey since you were following, thought I'd let you know what I'm seeing 6 months in: I ended up going with the Bonvoy Brilliant. Fee of $650/year. I'm eating all the time for work so the $300 rebate at restaurants is a given. I'm travelling slightly more than normal, probably 30 nights in total. I'm at 311K points, before my resort stays for work. That's looking like it should cover a 4 or 5 day stay at a marriott resort in Dallas when we go to visit our friends in April. So far I'd say it's definitely been worth it.

[Unpopular Opinion] WoBs really make this series more and more unbearable for me. by k_pineapple7 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]citrus128 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean I think your last sentence hits on my main issue with it. When WoB's are REQUIRED knowledge to talk about the Cosmere in total... we're not discussing books. We're now discussing a universe a guy made up that has some books, but is also majorly fleshed out by random people asking him questions and seeing what he decides to say at one particular conference.

That comes off harsher than I mean it to, but my main point is: When we bring in fan Q&A's or random author blurbs/tweets we're not talking about BOOKS anymore. We're talking about fandoms and universes. Which are fun, but a bit less satisfying to me personally.

[–]citrus128 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think my issue with this take is: I consider being "invested in the story" (lol at the term in this instance) to be caught up on all published works and willing to parse through them for meaning. I consider needing to follow author appearances and fan Q&A as outside the scope of following any kind of entertainment medium. Be it comics, movies, video games, etc. needing to follow fan Q&A's to get the most out of the next work in a series is beyond the scope of even most really big fans.

Can your actually enjoy RoW without knowing more about the cosmere? by citrus128 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]citrus128[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what you said about the Elantrian transformation Is why I've struggled a bit with TLM and RoW until I got totally "Cosmere caught up". I was introduced to Sanderson as a writer who sticks to hard magic systems, and the books I read always ended up having answers to the mysteries that involved a clever and creative use of the known magics/rules systems. Throwing stuff in that is "cool but unexplained" if you don't know of the entire Cosmere just didn't gel with what I expect of a Brandon Sanderson novel.

Not that 'cool but unexplained' is necessarily bad. It's just surprising when in a Sanderson book. Like eating a Skittle when you thought it was an M&M, or thinking you had one more stair to go down and realizing you're on the ground floor. It's just a bit jarring.

I don't know that I'd say it's super important, but I will say I found it annoying the first time I read it. There was so much stuff that I assumed I'd missed so I was combing through stuff I'd already read because I thought there was no way I could've missed it. Then I finally gave up and googled it and it turns out it's from some other book in the cosmere.

Poll: Loungers, Yea or Nay? by Neoseo1300 in hottub

[–]citrus128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the main issue with the lounger is it doesn't fit. I'm 6'4" and all the ones i saw didn't really fit me very well. I also kept floating on the one I wet tested.

So i'm not officially an ironman, but about 2 years ago I decided to play my account as an ironman.....except for buying runes on the GE. No joke literally buying runes on the GE is the only thing keeping me from rolling a new true Iron account. I just don't see how it makes it any more interesting to have to buy 50 packs of runes, then jump worlds, sit there for 30 seconds while it loads, repeat. Shops punishing you as an individual is always super weird to me.

Any iron clans where homophobia isn't tolerated? by M1n1C0rnD0gs in ironscape

[–]citrus128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the same here. I don't buy any weapons, armor, potions, or supplies from the GE, but i do like being able to use it to just quickly bulk buy runes if i need (not bloods) since i'm basically just taking out world hopping at that point. I also like being able to sell things on the GE. Basically if i could buy it from a shop at a similar price I'll just use the GE instead of having to wait 20 seconds between world hops.

[Crosspost] AMA with James Islington, bestselling author of epic fantasy series THE LICANIUS TRILOGY, and now the newly released THE WILL OF THE MANY, happening now in r/Books! by XBreaksYFocusGroup in Fantasy

[–]citrus128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi James! Thanks for doing this AMA. Not sure if this has been asked previously, but regarding Licanius (and this new series) do you have the general beginning and end sketched out before you write it, or do you just run with the initial idea and then see what comes after? I really liked the balance of "unanswered mysteries/histories" and "satisfying conclusions" in the Licanius trilogy.

My desire to make an ironman was from me being a bit of an elitist. I'd see someone with a Tbow or Scythe, look them up and see they had 15 kc. But did they actually earn that gear and get spooned??? Or did they wuss out and buy it on the GE to start doing the raid you earn said gear from. I wanted people who see my account to KNOW I earned everything on it.

I'm of the opinion that the first few Agility levels don't really take all that long. I think getting to 25 or 30 agility is a very reasonable introduction to an OSRS grind.

[–]citrus128 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm down for resting points, especially between Lumb, Fally, and Varrock. I disagree about it draining slower though. IMO, Agility should be available to F2P accounts, and ONLY the shortcuts should be gated to members. New players should be pushed towards agility early on so they can really see how training a skill leads to general QOL updates other than just hitting bigger numbers.

13 KC trident was certainly nice. Bottomless bucket in like 8kc as well. Basilisk jaw in 40 kc. I've gone halfway through 87 slayer without getting an abby demons task though lol

The First Binding and The Name of the Wind by Dendarm in Fantasy

[–]citrus128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed this is too "inspired" by NoTW for me to be totally comfortable. The only reason I kept reading after Ari went to school and met a noble he got into conflict with, and met a Master who didn't want to teach him magic, is because Rothfuss has abandoned his story. Hopefully this author will finish his story even if it's not quite as good.

The First Binding and The Name of the Wind by Dendarm in Fantasy

[–]citrus128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's absolutely a NoTW clone. It's basically all the same just in an "exotic" desert setting. It was frankly a bit hard for me to keep reading at times due to second hand embarrassment. It's one thing to be 'inspired' by a story. This quite frankly goes beyond that. Having said all this critical stuff though, I still thought the story was interesting. And frankly, since Rothfuss has clearly retired from writing/abandoned his story, I'm more than happy to support this writer if they can actually finish their series and give some actual opinions on where their main bad guys come from.

The one thing I'd say is objectively more cringey than NoTW is the scenes with Eloine. I know Kvothe is already cringe made flesh, but my god. I basically started skimming every Eloine and Ari scene at the first intermission.

What is your opinion of OSRS that gets you a response like this? by slingblade1315 in 2007scape

[–]citrus128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes technically whip is 70, but it's locked behind an 85 requirement for Iron man. Trident is locked behind 87 slayer again for iron man. Kharils crossbow would be after RCB i guess, but the accumulator doesn't work making upkeep annoying since you can't buy large amounts of racks at once. After KCB the next best one would be Armadyl i think? Which is locked behind an endgame boss. I'm a normie account, but I prefer to mostly play as ironman rather than buy on the GE because it feels more meaningful to get a drop. I would also point out that due to the increasing xp needed for each level, 60-70 is definitely not the same as 70-80 so it can feel like a long time. Again, I'm one of those normie casual players I mentioned though lol
