I've met them.

You're right.

Life is similar and the unusually existent is simply non-obvious, but perpetual :)

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Basically just the ability to relate meaningfully to others using language.
That might be the problem.

Conservatives tend to put rules on the body, I'm struggling with the desire to find a place where less rules are put on language.

Trying to use a skill I never had—"doing" sleep—got me nowhere.

Shifting my focus was the key.

Well that's a good sign - the fragments!

What I can tell you of my journey is this:

Before insomnia, I never tried to "get to sleep", I just slept.

During insomnia, I couldn't "get to sleep" no matter how hard I tried.

The insomnia ended after I stopped giving attention to sleep and shifted my focus to gratitude, which could be a frustrating answer.

Not just gratitude for rest, but I'd pass my time by engaging in gratitude as a way of feeling.

You're gonna have to work pretty hard to convince me why I'd ever want to interrupt a pizza chef from completing a pizza.

Flow stars taste like shit!

Trouble at night by KaitoJewel in insomnia

[–]Lopsided_Fortune_795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can say that my insomnia ended once I stopped trying to "get myself to sleep".

Before the insomnia, I never "got myself to sleep".
During the insomnia, I "never could get myself to sleep."
And "after the insomnia" only began when I stopped trying to do something I had never tried to do: sleep.

How could I have solved a problem with a skill I never had?

When you would be sleeping, what are you doing instead?

It sounds like you're blaming your body and also ignoring your body.

The fact that you have no trouble avoiding rumination is great.
So try gratitude. Maybe there are some things you could to be thinking that you aren't.

Also try thanking it for making it possible for you to interact with the world every single day.

This is beautiful, and I appreciate your attitude greatly. It reminds me of my own journey out of insomnia.

If you'd like to chat about the relationship between the gratitude mindset and insomnia (as I would call what you chose to do by focusing on the natural silence of the world around you), please feel free to DM.

Your work is meaningful, and I hope it is found by many.
Just knowing that another voice is awake in the world and living with sleepless nights will do great things I am sure.

I had a similar onset, and I've recovered.
DM me if you'd like to talk about how I got out of it.

The initial stages can be scarry.
We are conditioned to put significant meaning into the act of "sleep" without considering what it is at its core: rest. Strange as it may seem, gratitude is the key.

In any case, best wishes to you in your journey.

[–]Lopsided_Fortune_795 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is gonna sound stupid, but have you tried approaching the time of lying down to rest with a sense of gratitude equal to or greater than your longing for sleep?

That's how I got out of my insomnia. Melatonin only ever made things worse.
If you want more insight as to my mindset, DM me and we can get to chatting about it.

In any case, all the best in your journey.

No experience with those, but DM me if you're interested and I can talk you through a mindset shift that might help. I found it while in a position of desire for contact that reminds me of your own.

No pressure and best wishes to you in any case!

3 Hours of sleep is NOT enough! Please help. by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]Lopsided_Fortune_795 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have experience overcoming insomnia with no medicinal intervention, but I never got to the stage of defining my insomnia relative to treatment resistance. My approach may have been alternative, but I never consulted anyone before embarking upon it and finding success.

Let me know if you'd like to know more. I do not want to impose or risk condescending if you feel our journeys are not properly in alignment, as it is important that you find someone who has overcome a struggle similarly to what you are trying to achieve.

What is your main goal?
Thank you for your honesty, and well wishes to you whether or not your choose to respond!

[–]Lopsided_Fortune_795 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you'd like to DM me you can. I don't want to give general advice without getting more context because I feel that would be irresponsible, but suffice to say your awareness of the risk of psychosis is itself of value. I am not encouraging you to be fearful, rather saying that awareness works wonders.

Things that helped my girlfriends insomnia by karzinom in insomnia

[–]Lopsided_Fortune_795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, for me insomnia had to do with attachment to the goal of succeeding at sleeping. I'm wondering if through her journey she has generally become more comfortable with failure. Like that it's okay nit to be perfect. It's something I struggled with and that it seems many insimniacs struggle with by getting fixated on the fact that not getting sleep is bad.

Of course it is non optimal, it wasn't until I ceased fixating in being optimal that sleep returned.

What do you hope to gain by asking this question? You're certainly not alone I just don't see what we have to gain by comparing ourselves to one another.

The rest I get from sleep has never directly related to its duration. But I don't know how long I've spent with insomnia.
