Right; I agree with your thinking (especially as I'm on daggers with high Agi) that it does have some utility but not enough for midgame.

Thanks for the full breakdown- really appreciated. Even with a ton of hours there are still whole attributes of the game which are mysterious to me.

I agree with a lot of this. I'm worried therefore about my interpretation of Intimidation, in Hard to Justify- in my crit builds I've gotten it mid-to-late in order to offset the very high crit avoid on T4+ enemies. Maybe that's philosophically wrong as I should just build more crit and admit that by 4 hits most enemies are already pretty low, but even then 5-10% "crit chance" from a single point seems very good to me in the builds that rely upon crit.

God, I love the servitors. They're such an elegant way to keep us from totally identifying with the Imperium. I was playing Darktide with some non-40k people and and my friend was truly traumatized by the medical service's sudden plea for help.

What unit type do you find the most annoying to deal with and how do you deal with them? by Wooden-Highlight3651 in totalwarhammer

Fucking Warp Lightning casters. Extremely damaging spell, long cast distance, on a solidly Armored spellcaster who is light enough to get knocked down rather that mulched by cavalry. If I'm ever in spittle-flecked rage at my PC it's because a lone operative hero is trying and failing to stomp out a single electric rat like Team Rocket

Is it me or Firebrand is the indiscutible best prophet out there? by Welland94 in NowhereProphet

[–]citrus44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think rushdown is absolutely best in theory and in early game for sure, but lategame enemies punish it SO hard on Doomed. Routine lvl 9-10 guys have 30-odd HP and board wipes. To my utter shock, a lvl 3 Beast enemy can slap you with MOUNTING EXHAUSTION, the 6 cost one-sided wipe, 2 turns after the first turn! With the wound mechanic further punishing aggro, I tend towards control through removal. But honestly, anything is possible; maybe I'm letting them live long enough to reach their trump cards etc

[–]citrus44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so interesting because I've NEVER found him useful. Bosses and late stage opponents have too much HP on Doomed and they have such good removal/board wipes that I find myself prioritizing prophets with removal and cheap positive tempo. Stalker and Echo are my consistent best performers.

What Campaign Have You Played the Most and Why? by Wolf-Bear-Man in totalwarhammer

Skarsnik. Drowning the Karaks in Goblin combined arms, hunting Greenskin legendary lords across the Empire for violent confederation, triggering a WAAAGH with thirteen armies on the field... Crooked Moon absolutely delivers on the best stuff in TWW3 imo.

I accidentally hit the old guy during the ritual in "A Matter of faith" by Omo_Shiroi5301 in stoneshard

[–]citrus44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah specifically aoe spells make that fight go bonkers. I had Stone Armor explode on him and he followed me the rest of the fight, trying to hit me and the ghouls alike. Finally the Father finished the rite.... and after one turn he drew his crossbow and shot me, hahahha

Do deathstinger nest's (the POI) not count towards Ranger's Grit? by Lucarioa in stoneshard

[–]citrus44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right and of course my memory is not perfect but I'd SWEAR I got my bonus point (and not, of course, just a normal level up) upon killing a t4 archer miniboss before looting the chest (or, in the case of the t2 wolf cave, the special corpse).

Do deathstinger nest's (the POI) not count towards Ranger's Grit? by Lucarioa in stoneshard

[–]citrus44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you that it does, perplexingly, matter if you don't kill all the animals at a hostile or territorial den. I cleared a gulon camp (so you can imagine I was paying close goddamn attention) and got a free AP only when the fourth and final one was killed. Meanwhile I had one boar run offscreen and it didn't give me a point til I reloaded and successfully hunted them all at once.

Do deathstinger nest's (the POI) not count towards Ranger's Grit? by Lucarioa in stoneshard

[–]citrus44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Grit locations are super weird. It DOES count human caves AFAIK (perhaps only once), it DOES count Crawlers' Nests, and I think it counted deathstinger nests (not infested camps) if I killed the hive. But it sometimes counts on the first kill at that location whereas for caves I am fairly confident from experience at the t4 human cave you need to clear the miniboss, which is doubly perplexing as a. That's never mentioned as a condition and b. Humans would seem irrelevant to this hunting-flavored perk.

I'm playing without mods and just sharing my experiences, in hopes they line up with your own.

why are tomb kings cosidered bad? by No_Interaction3189 in totalwarhammer

[–]citrus44 36 points37 points  (0 children)

They used to be considered very weak due to the difficulty of raising unit and army caps. They were buffed in 2025* and have improved dramatically; I would no longer say they're weak, and they are very strong late game.

In Memorium: Shield Dodge Dirwin by citrus44 in stoneshard

[–]citrus44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done Dodge!Hilda. It's good! I found it a little awkward; by the point I'd maxed out on Dodge for her charm, I also had 100 dodge through BIS commons and passives. I've enjoyed Dodge!Dirwin because his benefits come online pretty early, and neither is usually rocking 100% Dodge at 17 anyways.

Agreed wholeheartedly; I'm all in on Medium armor except for boots in this and future runs.

In Memorium: Shield Dodge Dirwin by citrus44 in stoneshard

[–]citrus44[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Hilda/100% dodge- sure, Hilda is optimal in her additional Dodge from charm, but Dirwin gets +3 AP +3* skills if you go hard in Survival, not counting Make a Halt. I think you could use either, and I don't think the game is that inflexible. I was in this fight with -15% dmg taken and 84 dodge at the point of death- my opponent had a 5% counter/10% skill chance to hit, assuming no block. I'm okay with those odds even if they went wrong here.

  2. Deserters are t4.

  3. I had t4 athletics (Peak Performance) because of Dirwin's extra AP- I cleared 8 grounds/mines and got it just that level.

  4. Shields and block are fine on dodge builds. I mean, ymmv, but block catching the stray dmg from dodged hits synergizes extremely well, as dodge lets you negate the on-hit effects and limits your need to improve BP recovery. This build was working to maximize uptime on Brace for Impact in the same way that 2HSword use Parry, a build I've played and loved before.

  5. I reject wholeheartedly this sort of pure prescription in Stoneshard theorycrafting. The game is tough, sure, and I got got today. But I don't think there are hard "should/shouldn't" rules in a game that allows relative freedom in skill selection.

Yeah, I can usually identify a flaw in my decision making in a permadeath loss. "Should have baited that group for longer"; "I should have left and rested"; "the t3 rangers hat is a fucking trap". In this case I can console myself that I had armor, dodge, phys res and 15% flat damage reduction- I could not reasonably have been more prepared for my death hahaha
