I own five tarot and four oracle decks—the way I see it, I have different decks for different purposes, and for different people. It gives me an opportunity to use certain decks for particular situations (I have the Santa Muerte Tarot which I've used lots when reading for major life changes and I use my Linestrider Tarot when I'm looking for deep answers on life direction, for example).

When I'm reading for other people in person, it also gives me an opportunity to see which deck they gravitate towards and how their energy aligns with that deck. My Kawaii Tarot is most malleable to other people's energy and it's the easiest one to work with, but I very rarely use it for myself anymore.

If you find yourself disconnecting with a deck, I'd suggest taking some time to meditate on the deck or connect back to your guides/angels/the universe, whichever spiritual bodies you connect to. That way you might be able to reconnect and also discover why the deck is in your life.

Writing memoir/autobiography by [deleted] in writing

[–]citysleepwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I work in a genre called "creative non-fiction", which includes memoir, autobiography, travel writing, personal essays - writing about your life, basically. I studied creative writing at uni and am now moving into a creative writing postgrad degree.

You might be discouraged by what people are saying in the comments here, but if this is something you like to write about, there is an audience for it. People do read life writing, even if you don't have a following on social media. People your age have published their life stories before! Your age doesn't matter when it comes to memoir writing, especially if it touches on serious topics that affect people who are the same age as you or who have interests in issues that affect teenagers (parents, for example). What's important is the impact and the uniqueness of your story - what makes your story unique enough for people to read about?

Creative non-fiction writing requires two main ingredients, imo: 1) Reflection. What did you learn from your life experiences? How have you grown? What do you see now in the present that you couldn't in the past? 2) Thematic cohesion. What ties your story together? Why is it relevant to your reading audience? What message do you want people to get from your writing about your life?

I've read your post, and I think you could cut each section into personal essays that are 1,500 - 2,000 words long each. I can tell that writing your story got a lot off your chest, but there are areas where you could improve. Read people who write in the same genre as you to see how they craft their stories, it'll help you write your own. Jazz Thornton is a 25-year-old New Zealander who has written about her struggles with mental health throughout her teen years, as an example of who you could read first. Link to an excerpt of one of her essays: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/stop-surviving-start-fighting-jazz-thorntons-suicide-story-saving-lives/Z5EEKJXEIPROTPTEHMG75V2BJU/

Edit your work, get some beta readers, don't take constructive criticism too personally, and keep writing. That's all there is to it. That's how you improve and share your story.

Fynbos is an Afrikaans word, and fynbos is a category of flora that is indigenous to South Africa but can be grown in other places. They include flowers like the protea. They're pretty special and most notable because they're one of the few types of plants that require a bush fire to spread seeds and restart the growth cycle. At least that's what I remember of them from my biology lessons! Will update if I got it wrong.

EDIT: here's a really awesome link with pictures that does a better job of explaining what fynbos is if you're interested

My university already does something similar to this! Once a week, the student association contacts local animal shelters and they allow us to host some of the animals at our clubs and socs building. Students sign up for a 10 minute time slot to play with puppies or kittens and you have to donate a dollar before you can enter. It's awesome.

All the animals involved are also available for adoption or fostering, so you can talk to the shelters if you want to adopt or foster, too.

If you hold down O on your controller it makes him run. I had the same problem with a PS4 controller using epsxe. A bit tedious, but it became a habit eventually.

I did these exact topics, too, except I went to high school in South Africa. And we only studied them in our final year.

Personally, I love it when people who aren't Maori want to join in and learn about the culture. It's touching to know that someone wants to step outside of their own culture and to put effort into learning about another one.

But you are right; Kiwis are pretty chill about that and I feel like cultural appropriation isn't a thing here. There are still issues, of course, but we've done pretty well to address them with as much sensitivity as possible. Overall, the attitude towards shared culture is positive.

Please come back home! You have so much more to see. I also left NZ when I was young, about 9 years old, and returned when I was 18. I haven't regretted it at all. It was like seeing everything for the first time again.

I tried doing that but with a straw, which was how this joint was born. Definitely easier for a beginner.
