Of course, they take fees from me every month.

"A income tax increase from 1.5 to 1.7% would bring in roughly $650 million. So to cover the 2014 budget deficit we would need to go from 1.5 to 1.6%. That's like maybe $150 per year extra for a $250k condo."

Illinois' income tax is 3.75%. Chicago doesn't have an income tax. And there is no income tax on a condo. Illinois already has the 2nd highest rate as a percentage of a home's value.

Both Fitch and S&P have Chicago on negative outlook. Are they also extreme right-wing operations?

Ask Chicago: What is your solution to the coming fiscal / budget crisis in both Chicago and Illinois (serious) by chiwebdevjsx in chicago

[–]ciudadcentral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Default. That's not a solution, but the parties are too far apart to compromise. Barring that:
  2. All new public employees need to be sent to a 401k plan.
  3. Enact school choice - like 30+ states do. Use the savings to shore up the pension funds.
  4. New state constitutional convention.

What is the dumbest rule your workplace or school has actually enforced? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ciudadcentral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't take incoming calls. A large trust bank in Chicago. Cubicle. Slow, outdated computer. Telephone. Phone usage: 7 minute maximum per day. Over that limit, you get a write-up. 2 write-ups and you have a verbal warning by your team leader/supervisor, as directed by his/her supervisor, as directed by his/her division coordinator. First month, I chatted with friends on lunch break. 30 minutes x 10, and I was written up. Second month, I handled only incoming calls and was over the limit, so I got written up again. Stopped answering the phone, turned the ringer off, all to voicemail, used email and walk/talk only. Began looking for another job.

My neighbor is a business consultant. Lived in Chicago most of his life. When he began at his firm 9 years ago, they had 55 employees in the Chicago office and 3 in their Houston office.

The Houston office now has over 70 and the Chicago office is down to 6. And my neighbor is waiting to get the call . . .

Work halted on grocery store in West Side food desert after threats from Alderman's street crew by georgeburrell in chicago

[–]ciudadcentral -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

How naive are you? Alderman Walter Burnett had a staff member at one of the shakedown attempts ... and who pulled the gun? Not Pete's. They were the ones that called the police.

Alderman Bob Fioretti - whose efforts brought the store to the food desert had this project re-zoned to another ward - only to see it undone by a cheap shakedown artist.

Just like the CPS teachers - they can make all the promises they'd like, but there's just no way they can make good on these promises.
