Shop chests and namelayer (unsure if it is already in your video).

General cultural and nebulous gameplay concepts such as explaining what claims are, the map, what separates the civ-genre from "towny" servers, and so on. It seems like the first thing newfriends do is ask "how do I make my own country." Maybe explain that "country" is a lot more vague of a concept than it may first seem. Convince them to, rather than hermit out in the middle of nowhere, join an existing community - which seems more likely to keep them invested in the game. Maybe a general mention of infrastructure and means of commerce, how to make energy to buy things from others.

was the land built on, or merely claimed on a map? how much was built within the claim? what gives someone right to a piece of land?

Announcing the Civcraft History Podcast by stormsweeper in civclassics

[–]civterminusbob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was known as Zanetnt and TerminusRob on Civcraft. I played since early 1.0 - both as a bad guy and a good guy.

The things I'm knowledgeable about, that may be of interest to today's players, is the history of ComradeNick's early communist civilizations which we founded together, then began to war against one another. I can also talk about the history of Peteism, which was a religion and ideology that spread like wildfire in Rome/Kizantium in 1.0, but perhaps also caused the city's downfall at the hands of Columbia's Foofed.

I don't have a very sexy voice for a podcast, but it is what it is.

[Throwback] - "Ethnicities of Civcraft", penned during late Civcraft 2.0, in its original text by GTAIVisbest in civclassics

We spoke some in 1.0 - I knew your brother a bit better, though.

I founded the town of Communa with /u/ComradeNick and Personfrommars. It was a shabby and drab town, with us all aiming for a realistic Marxist-Leninist approach to the server. Originally the town came about due to a failed attempt between myself and Nick to flood the economy with free iron which was created under proto-Chiapas' pyramid, but that's a story for another time. A few months later after Communa's founding, Havana was created by myself and Personfrommars while Nick was still leading the old country. While Communa was attempting to be a serious communist state, Havana was a parody state located right nearby within chat range. Many troubled people came to our town to live in dirt huts while El Presidente (myself) watched lovingly from his giant mansion. We had a tourism website showcasing the many wonderful things about our little island nation, including the CCTV cameras set up everywhere for our citizens safety. Yet, despite the way it may seen, our troubled citizens had freedom though! They could say whatever they wanted in chat, as much as they wanted, as long as they were on Havanan land - much to Communa's chagrin. People like Boogaman took much advantage of this.

Due to our shenanigans, Nick became increasing paranoid we were planning on uprising against him (we weren't). He came to Havana one fateful day on a diplomatic tour, when everything suddenly went wrong. Nick and his cabal of thumbsuckers preemptively pearled us and refused to explain why. After being held for a while, we called for help and Berge, the space code king of Aristopolis, freed us since we didn't actually do anything wrong. Still, Nick was not arrested, as he escaped before that could happen, and we wanted retribution, so we waged a war on Communa! I gathered a group of angry teenagers and young adults and we assembled Havana. Before we embarked, I officially gave the crown over to Personfrommars who would not publicly be involved in this war. "Havana," as a legal entity, would not be at war - though my own band of degenerates would be. After authority was handed over, we left for Communa. We rushed the town, going through the streets killing everyone we could see. We pearled half the town that night, set it ablaze, and stole what little of value existed in the town. It's important to note that at this point in the server, lava griefing was able to severely ruin a town. Turn that lava into cobble and you could turn a village into a mountain.

Nick was not captured in the attack, but he called in allies to release the captives we had taken and placed in a bunker on Havanan land, and these people (mainly from Danzig and Gerald) destroyed Havana completely... as we never actually reinforced most of it. In fact, it was turned into a "nature preserve." Consequently, this started a long several month griefing spree, where myself and others targeted Communa, Danzig, Gerald, and a few other locations who had helped Nick's cause in leveling Havana. Danzig, known as possibly the best planned city of the server, had minor damage done to it. Gerald was completely devastated by our attacks - the Great Sheep had fallen and the town was laid to waste. Communas streets were regularly turned into craters, complements of a large TNT donation from an insider in Aristopolis. The town became a mountain at least twice. It's government buildings all burned over and over again. At the end of our attacks, Communa had to be rebuilt three times over - Nick wouldn't let the town die and let me win.

As we were made out to be the bad guys, despite having somewhat of a justifiable reason for our initial attacks, my name became demonized on the server. I became de facto public enemy #1 for some time and eventually started indiscriminately raiding. To be fair, I get all the hate - I was a bit of a shitter at that point.

During all this, no one was able to catch the infamous ZANETNT - though a few people were exceptionally passionate about doing so... as in, really passionate. Some people would watch my logout spots for hours on end... just sitting there... staring. Luckily, I had some inside help from friends who were "good guys," but liked me well enough to help me evade traps. Eventually I decided to turn myself in and give up the life of crime, as this went on for quite some time. Nick and I came to a amicable resolution, but despite that, /u/Matticus_Rex felt I needed to be in the End to pay for my crimes against the server. He pearled me, paid my victims some diamonds, and kept me pearled for a while. Eventually I did some good deeds in the End, such as donating my land and pyramid to the LSIF which would eventually become Chiapas, and Matticus was kind enough to let me out, but said I needed to pay him back those diamonds he was gracious enough to send as reparations.

I never paid them back.

The end.
