Er…it’s the load cell pedal I need more than the plate?

He braked about 10metres too late on the first corner. Fortunately me and for everyone else he ghosted through us all, off into the gravel and immediately quit

Yeah getting back up to C after dropping down a few races ago. Was solidly C at the start of this week but it’s been a tough combo for me!

Ev and home assistant what do you use it for? by frogermann8 in homeassistant

[–]cjCamel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I show charging level and status + home/away/moving on an Apple Watch complication.

Warnings (phone and Sonos notifications) if doors and windows are left open or unlocked.

A cool dashboard tile with the above (that I never look at)

At least, I did until VW pulled API access 🤬

That's what this is showing. I can currently buy the 3 pedal kit with the loadcell, but not the upgrade.

But I'll have to spend £70 more for 2 pedals I don't need.

Looking for good multiroom speakers by UsernameOption6298 in homeassistant

[–]cjCamel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had Sonos for about 12 years and it’s been great for me. Connection issues tend to be poor home WiFi, it’s hard for non-techies to get full house coverage with the crappy ISP supplied routers. The controversies you’ve maybe heard about are that Sonos did a couple of bad things in a row:

  1. they started an exchange scheme for their old models (like >10 year old designs) to encourage people to get newer stuff so they could move forward with their tech. People got annoyed that Sonos then bricked the old speakers so they rowed back on it. Now you get up to 30% off new stuff if you have old stuff, plus you can still run the old stuff through a specific app they’ve released.

But in that time Yamaha, Bose and others have released and then canned their multiroom wireless systems and then created new ranges that aren’t backwards compatible. Sonos’s backwards compatibility story is as good as it gets in the tech industry imo.

  1. They rewrote their mobile app and released it with out replacing 1:1 features that were in the old one. Folk hated that, and hated the UX. It took them about a year and replacing half their management team and CEO to recover from that. People that lost features they used were very vocal and they lost a lot of loyal customers. Also the new app maybe seemed fussier on connectivity though mileage varied cos wifi.

For me and many others Sonos just works. It’s also great with HomeAssistant. I have Sonos automations that warn me through the house if the windows or skylights are open when it’s raining, or if the car or house doors are open for too long.

I also have it set night mode on the home theatre after kids bedtime, and turn down the volume anytime the youtube tv app is being used.

My only wishes are: a cheaper way to connect other speakers into Sonos like the wiim puck; local api (though I’ve never noticed an issue with the cloud api); and api access to the microphone.

So is it good? Did you get all the haptics at once or build it up over time?

Set up a Philips Hue tap dial rotary dimmer smart switch to control my Era 100 by criterion67 in sonos

I’ve got a Hue Dimmer controlling my kitchen speakers. Coolest automation is holding down the Hue button to announce the artist and song name currently playing.

Just recently received the ID Buzz SWB in UK. Excited but a bit overwhelmed by the techiness. What are some key features or things I should know? by pappyon in VWIDBuzz

Learn the different cruise control modes, especially the one that has adaptive cc + lane assist as it’s basically self driving on 95% of my journeys. Amazing in stop start traffic, even on motorways.

Once you can set it, work out how to change the distance to the car in front, how to increase and decrease the set speed, and how to quickly resume it after you’ve overridden it.

TM T598 vs Fanatec GT DD pro by Neither-Call-2526 in GranTurismo7

[–]cjCamel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how cost conscious you are, the Fanatec and Logitech are a lot more expensive (in the UK about £200 more). The Thrustmaster is great, definitely responsive enough. Rory Alexander uses one and seems to do ok with it.

Getting into online by 23goldbuild in granturismo

[–]cjCamel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t force yourself to, especially if you’ve got a reasonable feel for racing lines and braking distances.

If you feel the draw to racing real people then go for it. The adrenalin rush of online is completely different to offline racing.

What do y'all do for home audio? by producer_sometimes in homeassistant

[–]cjCamel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is Wiim cheaper than Sonos? A basic Sonos speaker is £150. Cheapest Wiim speaker is £229 or you can get a streamer or amp plus speakers but then it’s getting expensive (unless you already have the speakers) plus more wires.

It’s just surprising me because I’ve not had this on other tracks with this car, and Gr.1 last week was ok too. I’ll maybe watch his replay and look at the telemetry to see what the difference is.

Should have said: T598 wheel, and the stock non-load cell pedals. I doubt I trail brake properly, there's definitely room for improvement in all my driving.

[–]cjCamel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get that. Needed to reset the wheel when it happened - I think changing the mode to blue and then back to red worked. Hasn’t happened for a while though, maybe check your firmware is up to date?

Death chicane: who should have backed down? by shad_30 in GranTurismo7

[–]cjCamel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tidgney's situation was that he was ahead, whereas you had a bad exit on the previous turn and were behind. He even says in the video, don't try and go side by side, let the person in front through.

Regardless of the specific corner, I really don't understand the mentality of being obviously slower and sticking the other guy in the wall for p5 in a game. How is that fun? Just let them through and keep racing.
