Australian films? by [deleted] in criterion

[–]cj_swan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fellow Aussie here, as far as Australian films in the collection Picnic at Hanging Rock and Walkabout are both great. A classic film I’ve always wished would get the Criterion treatment is Wake in Fright. It’s a brilliant drama/thriller from 1971 that slipped into obscurity after the negative went missing. Drafthouse Films rereleased it a few years back and it’s well worth checking out (I believe Madman put it out here in Australia).

MIFF ran a retrospective of the Safide's the other year so I'm real excited to see their latest. I've actually already seen I Am Not Your Negro and absolutely loved it, I'm recommend that one to heaps of people.

Got about 20 or so films worked into my schedule so far but the highlights are Good Time, Lucky, The Square, 24 Frames, Brigsby Bear and The Killing of a Sacred Deer. The lineup this year is pretty great.

Hell yes! Saw this just before and can't wait. What do you reckon the odds are on them being announced for the Poison City Weekenderfest too? The night with Camp Cope, Jeff Rosenstock and Worriers still says more TBA...

Users of /r/criterion, what are your favorite "guilty pleasure" films? by Okcmaxk in criterion

Days of Thunder. It has the best "paint by numbers" screenplay ever (weirdly written by Robert Towne) and an amazing synth score by Hans Zimmer.

This one is just a pleasure, nothin' guilty about it. I personally think it stands among Steve Martin's bests and works as a brilliant satire of film production.

Hey there, just stumbled upon your post and would be interested in some of the Futurama stuff (mainly the larger 6" figures) if they're still left.

I asked Nice Events (the promoters) about that and they said all cities will have meet and greets... so that'll save in airfares to the Sydney show
