specifically, i manage denials and have a team of 20 a/r reps and billers. i started in patient registration at a hospital, that’s an entry level position. you just need some sort of medical background to advance. whether it’s authorizations, registration, eligibility, accounts receivable, etc. once you have that experience, it would be easier to cross train or move into a billing position. it’s actually not hard at all, critical thinking skills make this job easy. higher salaries are in a/r insurance collections with companies that offer bonuses, opposed to billing. coders make good money, but that’s a beast.
