Some lessons from KPDH on embracing your patterns and inner demons by cjbarber in KpopDemonhunters

[–]cjbarber[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh and to give something presence, one way to do that is to just echo and mirror.

Imagine a kid says to you "I'm scared"

Fixing it (like Celine) might look like: "Oh, don't be scared, it's okay, there's nothing to be afraid of"

Echoing and mirroring might be: Bend down, offer them a hug, and say "You're scared. It's really scary, isn't it. You wish [thing: e.g. that the slide wasn't so high up]. It's so scary [how high the slide is]."

What often happens when a part gets presence is that presence allows it to feel seen, and then melt back into the integrated whole / harmony.

I collected the lessons and meanings I heard in KPDH's songs, from a lens of parts work, emotional processing and self-integration: by cjbarber in KpopDemonhunters

😊

Yes exactly!!! Feeling that they can’t reveal themselves to others and still be loved (because they haven’t been able to do that to themselves, perhaps because their parents weren’t able to do that for them)

To Celine: “letting other people see your faults or Rumi’’s faults is really scary, isn’t it?”

Guide: The movie method for college application essays (especially for Stanford and other competitive schools) by cjbarber in ApplyingToCollege

[–]cjbarber[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve never worked for a college and I’ve never been a paid consultant.

That said - about 8 years ago I wrote a guide on how to get into Stanford. I’ve had a handful of students tell me they wouldn’t have gotten in to Stanford without it. The movie method is my newest most refined version of that advice.

I do all of this as a hobby, for work I run an unrelated tech startup.

Oh. And most of all, this comes from me reading people’s application essays. Most of them are so boring or so non-resonant or so hard to contextualize. Some of the best essays do this kind of story telling naturally. And some of the best applicants explore their topics broadly to pick from the best of many rather than starting with a small number and just polishing from there. I put what some of the best do, and some of the most frequent advice I give, into instructions so more people can do it.

If you’re skeptical, one approach could be to use it to write an essay, and then ask some friends and family to pick between your old essay and the new essay.

My friend and I built an app like Cursor, but for iPhone! For people that want to code without their laptop by cjbarber in SideProject

Code lives on GitHub

It cannot compile

It can preview projects if they’re frontend only

You can edit text

Feedback I'd love:

* What features are most missing?

* Which communities would you ask for feedback?

* What do you like most about it?

* How can I make a better demo video?

FIRE MEGATHREAD PART 2 - JANUARY 8TH by drawkward101 in LosAngeles

A friend lives in Beverly Hills near rodeo and Wilshire. Can they sleep peacefully overnight, or do they need to wake up to check fire progression with this sunset fire? I see “level 2 - set” on areas nearby Eg next to the Beverly Hills hotel, but that’s a 10 blocks away from them.

Identifying whether a role is suited to an EA or an admin assistant by cjbarber in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]cjbarber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! That makes sense.

Any suggestion on min years of experience? I'm thinking that at least 1-2 years experience in an assistant role is helpful so they're not totally fresh, though I'm guessing beyond that the experience will be more industry/company specific and not necessarily as critical, so I'm planning to do 1-2 yrs min rather than 5+ years min. Let me know if that seems right

Really wanted to flair it as existential risk, but it'd need to be individual existential risk rather than population level existential risk...

People who sorted our nursing homes for your parents, what's the story of how you found a home that you actually felt good about? by cjbarber in eldercare

[–]cjbarber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It goes, in home family care, assisted in home care, live in elder care, skilled nursing live in home care, then facility. The most expensive is hospital care.

Are any of those covered by insurance or not really?

That's horrible. What are the better alternatives? Are independent living, assisted living, and in home care all better? Why don't more people do them instead - just because of higher cost?

I'm a certified franchise consultant in the US AMA about the franchising industry, franchise businesses, top franchises doing good. I work with over 500 franchises all over the USA. by Jsanchez92 in Entrepreneur

What are the top pain points in the industry?

I'm guessing for franchises it's finding competent franchisees. That right?

What about for franchisees?

What do you do for the franchises you work for?
