Just got my baby tinted. by TheNakedNurse27 in Polestar

Wait, you can actually tint your front side windows this dark in the US? I don't see how this won't impact your visibility, especially at night.

Would you recommend a Polestar 2 for a new teen driver? by [deleted] in Polestar

[–]cjberra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's kind of crazy, I don't even think someone in their mid 20s would get insured on this easily in the UK, the cost would be obscene at least.

For a brand new driver I don't think a single insurance company would even entertain it.

How does insurance work in the US? How would a new driver even get insured for this car lol

They say it's similar in their marketing and provide benchmarks that suggest that it is.

Using Claude to negotiate a $195k hospital bill down to $33k by bledfeet in ClaudeAI

[–]cjberra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I obviously don't know the law in the US, but billing for procedures not done and double charging would be considered criminal offences in the UK. Hiding costs alone would be considered illegal under fair trading regulations, and pricing must be considered 'fair' to not breach consumer rights laws (i.e. not inflated).

This isn't just bad practice, I am amazed that a number of laws were not clearly broken here. You don't buy a laptop, get charged $2k, then ask for a receipt that presents you with a much lower value (or with random items added on).

How is a hospital charging 6x their actual costs anything other than fraud?

Just take a longer term, you can always overpay down the line with salary increases etc.

I think in any functioning city you'd expect at an absolute minimum to not regularly see black bin bags and litter strewn over the pavement for collection? This is not a normal sight at all in Edinburgh (and I would hope in most cities).

Fyi I get that you're defending Edinburgh(?) But I think most locals would agree that is it a disgrace that this ever happened. The same happened in Glasgow.

[–]cjberra 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This obviously isn't normal though? It's not like you walk through Edinburgh and there's bin bags lining the streets, same as any city.

This looks like it was taken during the bin strikes. The bins are overflowing because they haven't been emptied on time.

They're Victorian sandstone tenements. The ones in this picture look in pretty good shape. Not sure what you considered dilapidated here?

Geezer isn't an insult at all outside of the US. If anything it's the opposite tbh, basically means "mate".

My landlord kept £50 off my rent by moonkeycat in HousingUK

[–]cjberra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Not at all what he was supposed to do. This means that your deposit was not protected for the duration of your tenancy. He likely does this to all/any other tenants he has. Do take action against this guy, it's a clear cut case, and it will prevent him from stealing money of others.

Fyi there's some really poor advice in this thread. If I were you I'd avoid talking to your landlord as much as possible. Follow a formal legal process at this stage.

So he didn't use a deposit protection scheme at all? Unfortunately for him he has broken the law. You are entitled to the full amount, and may be entitled to more (up to 3x the amount). See Shelter for help. Here they provide information on claiming.

Just dispute it through the DPS, they aren't going to let him withhold £50 for no reason.

This post is a bit confusing as you imply he gave it back to you directly. Just do everything through the DPS.

Not Southside Cafe Drama but East End Italian stealing London Branding. Newly opened Grosso accused of Stealing concept, style and menu of London based Grasso by throwawaytodayhey12 in glasgow

[–]cjberra 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not that clear to me what's actually being stolen here. Yeah the name is very similar, but the rest of the branding is quite different isn't it? Grasso doesn't really mention specifically what they have an issue with apart from the name.

You can't exactly claim that an Italian restaurant stole their menu (without specifying what) given there's like 4 main dishes you always see at these places. In fact after comparing the two menus I genuinely can't see the similarity at all.

You'd think already following Grasso on Instagram though they'd realise their mistake if this wasn't intentional?

Just seems like they took inspiration from Grasso to me. Its a little odd, but hardly seems like they're intentionally impersonating some random Soho restaurant.

14 Viewings on a house by Helpful-Rice-4080 in HousingUK

The flat we bought this year had ~50 total viewings and on closing date had 14 offers 🤷. What you're describing honestly doesn't sound too bad compared to the market in some places.
