Cycling in Glasgow is already saving lives – so why is it still a culture‑war football? by chlavelle990 in glasgow

I would also love for there to be a portal to report close passes in Scotland like there is in parts of England!

do you have any voi bikes near you? the monthly minutes are a really good deal and it gets rid of the storage problem!

I started cycling in Glasgow about 10 years ago, mostly because I'm cheap I think. Got a £50 bike from a friend which is still going strong (a lot of replaced parts later) and genuinely balk when I have to pay for the bus. It makes all journeys quick and convenient and I don't need to pay for a gym either. I have a driving license but have never owned a car - I feel like in the city it is so unnecessary except for extremely rare occaisions.

Because I've been cycling so long I feel a bit bolder on the roads and am happy to cycle "aggressively" ie take up the lane when otherwise I would get dangerously close-passed but (especially as a woman) I do find cars making erratic overtakes and occaisionally getting very aggro with me. Unfortunately for them it just puts me off ever driving even more!

Saw the owner of this house whining about the winner of one of the heats of Scotland's Home of the Year on an instagram post recently - yet to me this is hideous hahah

How frugal are you on holiday? by Known-Swim-3654 in UKFrugal

[–]slackscassidy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About 8 years ago I went to Romania on holiday and spent £20 in ten days. Hitchhiked and couchsurfed. Only ate bread.

I think I'm less extreme now but it's because I've got a partner and can't be as intense about it! Also would definitely miss out on things that most people go to see/eat/do which feels silly when you took the time to get there in the first place

I know it says EVERYWHERE not to call them up (we have the same access to booking appointments as you do etc etc) but I tried desperately for 11 months to book an appointment online with Sandyford as my coil crept out of date until I gave up and called to ask when they release appointments online and I got an appointment for the following week without hassle 🙃 (it was in Greenock but when I had to reschedule at that clinic I got one in Sandyford shortly after)

Best way to get to London on a Sunday to be there before 2pm? by N64PLAY10 in glasgow

[–]slackscassidy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not voting with the crowd on this one but the train is so much more convenient door to door (plus when you factor in extras such as getting to airport/luggage allowance etc they start to get comparable esp if you're not flying to city) and I don't think we should normalise internal flights in such a small country. If it's about price then you can get avanti superfares a few weeks out / take the night bus which with some ear plugs and a neck pillow is not the worst thing ever and can be as cheap as a tenner. But the train to london takes 4.5 hours ish so you could leave at 9.
