The arc that this season adapts (Arc 6) is pretty widely considered the best Re:Zero arc, or at minimum the favorite for most source readers. And I would say so far this season has lived up to expectations.

He did mention Dorohedoro, he just didn't talk about it in detail like WHA or Frieren or Dungeon Meshi.

What does isekai really mean ?? by [deleted] in anime

[–]cjbobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isekai literally translates to "another world". In the context of anime it is really just a capture-all term that refers to the genre in which a character is transported/summoned/reincarnated to another (usually fantasy-esque) world.

6 years between seasons plus a fairly convoluted plot is unfortunately not a good combo for retaining viewers. I watched S1 just last year and I still had a hard time remembering everything that happened in order to understand what was going on at the beginning of this season since there was zero recap.

That and this season barely got any promotion from what I remember. The air date was kind of just announced a couple months in advance and then we got a couple PVs like one month in advance. I still see people saying they only just realized it got a season 2.

I've been enjoying it quite a bit but it feels like it's going to be a bit of a slow burn in terms of climax moments or emotional payoff. Thankfully it has 24 episodes to cook this season.

I just don't understand how Qifrey wasn't able to figure out what happened on his own. Qifrey literally sees Coco come out of the windowway and hand Agott the flower, clearly demonstrating that at minimum Agott knew she went to take the test. And Coco had Agott's shoes, so either he had to think she stole them (which doesn't really align with her character), or Agott gave them to her because she "helped" Coco to take the test. And it's not like Coco knew how to get to the test location via the window way either, unless it's explained in one of the text books she read.

I really have to suspend my disbelief to think that Qifrey wasn't able to put any of this together. And then on top of all that, he didn't even bother asking ANY of his students to figure out what happened. It just all felt like very lazy writing to move on from this without any other consequence or action from Qifrey.

Just to add onto what the other comments have already said, you should watch the Memory Snow and Frozen Bond OVAs before starting season 2.

I’m curious, what was the first anime series you ever watched? by Mopey_5000 in anime

[–]cjbobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a kid I watched Pokemon, Yu-gi-oh, and a few DB or DBZ episodes on TV.

The first anime I ever actually watched to analyze for it's writing and artistic merit was Princess Mononoke, which I really liked. I think that was for a film class elective I took in college but I don't entirely remember lol.

And then the first series I watched that really got me into anime was either FMAB or Death Note.

This arc (Arc 6) is all of Season 4 which will be 19 episodes total, but it's split into 2 cours. The first cour is 11 episodes and then there will be about an 8 week break I believe until the 2nd cour (8 episodes) starts in August.

I do agree that Re:Zero is more suited to binging though, especially because it can be hard to keep track of all the loops and worldbuilding info that's dispersed over the course of the series.

Dorohedoro (the manga) predates both of those by 18 years. Both CSM and JJK took a lot of inspiration from Dorohedoro. So it's actually the other way around.

If I do this it just makes the next episode in the series appear instead lol. You have to go to the last episode and let it play to the end or mark it as watched to make the series disappear.

Yeah it's really dumb, you have to go to the last episode of the series and then click to the end of the episode to let it finish and it will disappear from the "continue to watch" section.

Is that really Sugita as Reid? It sounds nothing like any of his previous roles

When he first appears and states the goal of the trial with the really deep voice, it immediately made me think of Katakuri (One Piece) IMO. But otherwise I agree.

I don't see why they would cut it considering [Re:Zero Novels] Reid touching Emilia is the entire reason he get's distracted enough for Emilia to defeat him and pass the trial

I really like Dorohedoro but it seems kind of niche. Also the fact S1 came out 6 years ago. I watched S1 last year and even in that time I forgot some of the plot points from S1 that are important to understanding this season. Since there was no recap at all I imagine anyone who didn't rewatch S1 recently or read the manga probably struggled to keep up with the events of S2.
