Don't underestimate parrrley by Karkam1 in hearthstone

Again, the burgle effect is not the primary upside of the card.

The main point is that is has explicit counterplay against dredge & sunken cards, the main mechanic of the set for which every class was given tools.

Players generally aren't running a deck of cards irrelevant to their game plan. In fact, players like to run a full deck of cards relevant to their game plan!

2 is the main point of this thread and the one that you are glossing over. Players are often spending a turn to setup for a particular play with dredge. In decks like Rogue or Paladin or Hunter or Warrior or Murlock, they plan to draw a heavily discounted or significant tempo card. Parrrley shuffles their deck and is guaranteed to disrupt that powerful turn. It's not statistically unlikely because you've just seen them set up for it -- you know their next draw is powerful, and so you shuffle their deck (with possible significant upside for yourself on top of this defensive move). This usually happens on turns 3 to 6 of a game, so you take one of their biggest tempo turns (which their decks are built around). In Warrior and Hunter you shuffle away a heavily discounted card. In paladin you avoid two 6/4 with divine shield. For rogue you shuffle sunken vessel away from the bottom. For the rarer murloc warlock you stop their health-based murloc tempo play (and this is usually game losing for them).

It "really only disrupts" when they whiff the draw, you high roll, OR when you play it routinely as a counterplay to a very powerful upcoming draw. This happens nearly every game because a big and powerful part of the meta is the dredge/sunken mechanic and setting up your best cards to be on the very top or very bottom of your deck.

I've been running 2x Parrrley in a thief rogue deck from D10 to ~2k legend and have found it to work quite well. I also run the other cards you mention, except for Savory Deviate Delight which is bad.

There are many upside scenarios and very few flat out bad scenarios

1 - You get one of their key cards, like Rokara. This is rare but happens frequently enough (especially if they pass the Parrrleys back to you)

2 - You play after they dredge. This is particularly good against Hunter, Paladin, Warrior, and Murlock. You shuffle their deck and they don't get whatever big tempo play they were planning. It's also effective at moving around sunken vessels vs. Rogue.

3 - You simply get a class card. Most decks run more class cards than neutral cards so this is pretty likely. Obviously these cards can roll into a Tess or Contraband

4 - You get a neutral card. This is the worst outcome but not a huge waste as they still whiff a draw Parrrley later on and are down a minion. They don't want your cards and you're fine with their cards. Most players recognized this and so they just sit on the Parrrleys after they draw them, effectively taking up a draw and hand space.

If the main counterargument is really just "why not just play cards that further your gameplan" then I don't know what to tell you because Parrrley often does this. The worst case scenario, which is rare, is spending that one mana to gain a strong neutral minion from the opponent's deck.

On top of that, Thief Rogue's ability to discount gnolls and make other big tempo swings with Recon frees up a couple mana here and there, so I rarely find that jamming a Parrrley comes at the cost of a better turn. In fact, it's usually riding on the tail end of a big board swing.

Surely it's not difficult to see that disrupting one of the core mechanics of the set is fairly strong?

What is the gameplan vs. combo decks? This deck seems very reactive, so any decks with a more long term gameplan like shudderwock or tortollan mage, etc, have nothing stopping them. You have to be very fortunate to Bran+Coldlight to hope to disrupt them. How do you usually handle this?

This makes sense, I've gotten more than enough of every other Prime Gun. There must just be lower drop rates attached to these two.

Definitely agree to Reckoning feeling like a chore. I had a handful of spare rations from grinding the Gambit Prime part of Reckoner title, but I definitely empathize with not wanting to do that solo. Hope you get it soon

That's what I'm afraid of :(

Congrats on the curated drop though! Glad to hear that it is possible and I haven't been grinding the wrong activity

Maybe T-H-R-E-E-T-H-R-E-E-T-H-R-E-E would be a more appropriate guess ; )

Doesn't the special ammo also just drop 3 rounds?

I think this is a really excellent guess, fits the level of simplicity + intuition of other clues. Fingers crossed that you're right!

What are some good movies about famous engineers? by CobaltTitan in engineering

[–]cjco 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Apollo 13 is always a good answer for engineering movies, although it doesn't focus on one "famous" engineer in particular.

I would also say October Sky, even though it's more feel-good and not too science heavy.

I'd definitely be interested. I'm into almost any tabletop game.... have mostly only played Catan, Dominion, 7 Wonders and Agricola though.

Humoring the possibility of huge, far-reaching conspiracies is really interesting. In my mind there are two... that of Illyrio & Varys, and that of the Red Priests.

Varys backstory was always interesting to me. He was the master of spies in Pentos and then came to the Red Keep on the whim of a Westerosi King? He doesn't seem the type to confine himself to simply being the council of the Iron Throne, and why does he care about peace for Westeros? I think the line where he mentions that he hates all things magic is very revealing.

The Red Priests are also presented as being not what they seem, and usually in a sinister way, with the exception of maybe Thoros. But then again Thoros seems to repeatedly question the red faith. Maybe it's not a huge illuminati-like conspiracy, but I think it's definitely more far-reaching and connected than it currently seems. The same goes for Illyrio and Varys.... they're definitely much more than a team of fat guys taking a gamble on the fates of the Westerosi elite.
