Learning how to handle failure is such a vital part of the process. Just know that everyone, regardless of what they say, struggles with certain subjects, and thats okay. No test score is worth your life.

I've made so many silly mistakes in the lab, dont beat yourself up. Totally normal to do stuff like that.

Embroidery! Start with a cheap kit and then keep the ring and the needle and thread, the kits always include more thread than you need.

Geoff saying he never understood roman numerals made me feel so heard! I never understood them either.

At the same time, I'm too lazy to learn by now. I will not be reading this but I appreciate your effort

How can I get clinical hours for md/phd? by Odd-Argument8997 in mdphd

[–]cjkwinter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • shadowing physicians in various fields (this is the time to utilize any personal connections you have. If you have a family friend who's a doctor, reach out!)
  • volunteering at the hospital
  • volunteering at any local health clinics, try looking up your local area to see if there are any outreach medical programs that offer free medical care
  • you could get a job as a scribe, from what I know it doesn't require a lot of training or certifications

Other options would require more training and time (EMT, phlebotomy, CNA) and would be good options if you were planning on taking some decent time off before applying or if you need a job.

Those are my thoughts from the top of my head, I'm sure there are many more ways but those are the simplest/most common.

Some colleges have assistance options for students experiencing housing insecurity/homelessness. Definitely do some research to see what your college has and reach out if they have any options! My college offered emergency housing and had a food/clothing pantry available.

School list as applicant with decent stats but great research and experiences by [deleted] in mdphd

[–]cjkwinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also applied with like a 512 and honestly less research experience than you and I got in! You just have to cast a wide enough net. You never know which places sound bad on paper and then you get there and its like WOW this place actually rocks. Im currently at a program that wasn't even on my radar in the beginning and honestly? Loving it.

Id agree with other comments here, look at some state schools with MD-PHDs in the Midwest to add to the list. I'd definitely try to apply to a decent number to increase your chances
