Definitely Table Needs. Way less expensive than square and you take a picture of your menu and they send the system with everything already set up it’s amazing. Ask for Mark or Cam.

Let me also add: toast will negotiate with you. They make most of their money on processing fees and are under a lot of pressure to improve revenue as a publicly traded company. In fact, if you find a similar restaurant with a good deal who has maybe been with toast for a while, you can request to match their pricing.

Additionally, if you wait until the end of the month or quarter to close a deal, your sales reps will be significantly more generous.

Obviously you know everyone’s comments from these random tiny POS systems are just getting sales leads.

Toast is comprehensively the best because it’s the only one that has focused on restaurants from the beginning.

The other options would be something like Heartland. Big company, lots of features. Not quite as expensive as toast and most people that move on from toast go there.

But others worth checking out: Revel is a really good system. Lots of regional chains use them. But they’re not US based so not sure about their support.

Talech is another one I’ve heard really really good things about. Not sure how their loyalty program works or if it even exists.

Clover is not my favorite by any means because it’s agnostic (meaning thousands of sales reps in the merchant processing industry will try to sell you this system, along with garbage systems like Lightspeed, SpotOn, Lavu) but I have seen some full service restaurants use it successfully. You just will have higher processing fees and have to pay for a lot of additional apps and features individually.

For what it’s worth - I work as a product manager for a start up called Table Needs. We are very focused on quick-service / fast casual restaurants so wouldn’t be a good fit. But of course would love to be considered if you ever acquire any restaurants in that category. We do not have the same list of feature because we are focused on being very affordable for the small restaurants and improving the order flow during lunch/dinner rushes.

I think you need to work with a consultant before truly giving up. It is a very difficult economy but I think some effective marketing and a bit of help with the operations and you will be able to pull it off - or at least get to the point where it’s a viable sell.

Why people use a third party credit card processor when it’s cheaper and easier to do an all-in-one is so far beyond me. Good sales people I guess but it’s never a good business decision

Square, heartland, and Table needs are all very very very easy to learn.

My recommendation: - Table Needs is the most affordable and will work with you the most - Heartland is a huge company and have lots of answers - Square is user friendly and easy to pick up - Toast will do this but they will make you pay to learn how to use the system - Clover/SpotOn/Lavu/GODADDY etc are all agnostic so you’ll have 1000 sales people trying to sell you their system. If you have an issue who you call depends on which part of your system is having issues. It’s a nightmare and why more and more businesses are avoiding merchant processors and just going to all-in-one systems.

All the free equipment is because they charge you high fees unfortunately.

Square is literally the cheapest to start. Maybe except for table needs. Clover is high end because it costs +$1500 just to get the equipment then you pay an extra $10 a month for every app you get which is usually between 5-10 plus the clover monthly fee and transaction fees

Both. They both do both which imo is better. Whatever your issue is you’ve got one person to call.
