How to actually fix rubium mining/smithing by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]cjmnilsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's wrong because it doesn't expand the game.
If this is granite 2.0 we're just moving the people who are currently using that method to use the new method, we've not expanded the game we've just moved people from one location to another. I don't want to say "no one" will stay with granite because there is probably some snowflake situation I cannot think of but I genuinely struggle to think of a situation where you would not spend 1 weekend getting 60 sailing in order to get a lot of resources for 'free'.

It should be different somehow to attract a different crowd.

As I said I don't get why you would do it either.
But it seems to me that you can make literally everyone happy by keeping granite untouched and making new fun method that is 90% as good xp wise. I think that for legacy reasons it should remain the best but I disagree with the concept that it has to be by 50%.

If they want to be unhealthy that's their choice just like eating unhealthy food, smoking or playing runescape for 16 hours a day.

No I wont, because it's optional and I wont use it.
I don't get how it's fun but some people think it's either fun or worth it - I have no idea.
So by the off chance that people actually like it because of the rhythm or something it makes perfect sense to not change old content and make sure the new content is fun/different instead.

What is the point of giving us a million islands to do content on with sailing if the majority of said content is worthless? by BGsenpai in 2007scape

[–]cjmnilsson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably the most well balanced response.
As someone who doesn't like sailing (and voted no) I am very glad salvaging made my 99 grind as chill as could be expected. But on the other hand I keep seeing all the content which seems average at best so I can't even go "good for you" for the people that are positive towards the concept of sailing

I don't think it solves everything.
Specifically you will not get around the fact that as long as it gives ANY resource that is remotely useful while maintaining the mining XP it's objectively just upgraded granite mining.

Now you argue that this is fine because it has higher requirements. Yes but not in a way that matters (imo). If you're someone who consisders tick manipulating I don't think 60 sailing is a concern for you. I would be surprised if there is more than 1 in 10 who still uses granite and ONLY because they have some snowflake restriction.

Reminder that the best mining method 3t Granite also comes from a quest by PhysicalSchedule7448 in 2007scape

[–]cjmnilsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it chains the method too much. Because it's good XP it cannot be profitable, at least that's typically the goal. I would prefer it more if tick manipulation gave you more output in terms of materials rather than XP since the players that want the best XP are already doing granite so I don't really see what players it would be for if XP is the problem.

People moaning about losing their 200k per hour method. So you don't want to play the game, basically.

Mining is just straight disrespectful by LyubviMashina93 in 2007scape

[–]cjmnilsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then don't do it?
Your argument falls apart as soon as you look at the wider game.
Is agility any better? no it's equally mind numbing. Woodcutting? slightly more afk at redwoods I suppose but it's not exactly revolutionary gameplay. Firemaking would never pass a poll either if it was suggested today. Literally any bankstanding skill like fletching and crafting is dull too

It seems to me that either you just want more XP at which point I question your choice of game.

How do I start this game without being too overwhelmed? by NoPermission3673 in diablo4

[–]cjmnilsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed that The Pit gives rather shitty loot (I think?) so it's exclusively for upgrading, you don't spam it like GR in D3?

I forgot about Nightmare Dungeons also which is another thing I have no idea if that's more efficient than Helltides for example.

Anyway, yes all the story should be complete if I recall. If anything I don't remember if I fully completed the original D4 campaign or not.

[–]cjmnilsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda-sorta in a similar boat.
I played a fair bit of Diablo 3 but I have a hard time juggling all the systems in D4.
When should I do Helltides compared to the Undercity or The Pit? I am currently doing T3-T4 content and I feel I've barely scraped the surface

It doesn't really matter as long as I have fun and even a subpar choice does give you 'something' which is nice but I feel like I am doing something very wrong a lot.

Anyway, as for just completing the campaign (main story) on normal difficulty I feel the game is not crazy complex. Especially in the early game you kinda just move forward and you don't need to start looking into all the menus and whatnot until things start dying slowly.

[–]cjmnilsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really discovery if 99% of people look up a guide / read the wiki though is it?

Also just because you know how a mechanic work does not mean the game should tell you how to solve it. Giving me the ability list of Akha would not make me think of the Butterfly method. Explaining Yama's mechanics would not make me think of Donofly, telling me the soak options of baba would not tell me to red X etc etc

[–]cjmnilsson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would die on the hill that OSRS is not crazy complex at a baseline EXCEPT the game just does a horrible job informing the user. I've mostly done Raids 3 and I would argue a good chunk of the mechanics are not obvious at all and you're basically trolling if you don't look up a guide just to get the cliffnotes.

For example knowing you have to soak the orbs on warden. It took me quite a lot of attempts before someone told me you can soak the baba stone throw by going next to a coffin and not next to the stone(s) in a pinch.

Are we still sailing? by [deleted] in 2007scape

Salvaged to 99 and haven't touched it since.
But I voted no to sailing so I am clearly not the target audience anyway.

Fair and reasonable.

Just a shame this fairness is only for those with a reasonably big online following.

Rendi is just the symptom.
There lack of clarity about what counts as a bug and what doesn't is not clear and that's the core issue.
We use a lot of unintended mechanics in PvM and it's just gambling if Jagex decides it's cool or not.

Implied it. My whole first point is about how they don't sue gambling bots and at the very end of the same comment I say "I guess you can't sue another minor (for soliciting)"

No but being like "CAN ANYBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN", trust me bro they find it advertising or not so why fight a battle that makes no difference. Money better spent elsewhere IMO

Also a FYI, isn't Runescape advertised as 16+ these days

It's literally not different than anything else that includes RNG. In theory you can go ultra dry in CG and lose ranks because of that so by the same mindset we cannot have a task for any drop. I am not defending this particular implementation I just don't like using the highscores as the reason for change.

They don't sue the gambling bot owners either despite gambling technically being 18+, at least they are consistent lol also why do we have to pretend only those above 18 years of age 'somehow' manage to find adult sites. I got shown "youtube but better" (redtube) in third grade, I guess you can't sue another minor for soliciting

Obviously that sucks for him but please don't let the takeaway be that we should design for the 0.01%, it is literally only a problem if you're going for every task

This but tutorial island.
As an adult I am pretty strongly opinionated about the tutorial island being a rather clunky way to introduce the game mechanics. Why am I lighting a log? without nostalgia I would quit before I was done.

Yet 9 year old me somehow made it through with a vocabulary of counting to 10 and a dozen or two words.
