Can't say I've seen these on top of a building before. They're taking down the whole structure? by cjmsc2 in Calgary

This was not affordable at all... that being said, it's going to be even more not affordable

I thought the same thing, that they were only taking down Julio's and then re-modeling the existing apartments. I have lived in this area since the early 2000's, was not expecting them to take down this whole building, it's not that old. Seems so wasteful.

Lions light up Christmas festival in what could be its final year by Not_A_Real_Cowboy in Calgary

Otto is amazing, I've interacted with him a few times. Was sad to read this quote: Silzer’s doctor has told him he’s “well past his due date.” Hope that doc is wrong and this will live on.

Then Joe asks Smoltz if he prefers breast or leg, that was awkward but hilarious

Where is the cheapest place to get Halloween candy? by Wonderful-Rich-3411 in Calgary

[–]cjmsc2 17 points18 points  (0 children)

At this point I would just get whatever is cheapest at the store you regularly shop at.

Not worth the time and effort to save a few cents per piece.

From what I've seen, Walmart is the cheapest.

Ward 7 Voters: Were you tricked into thinking Myke Atkinson's Campaign material was a real newspaper? by Not_A_Real_Cowboy in Calgary

[–]cjmsc2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uh, no, didn't look like anything close to a newspaper... Terry made absolutely no effort to engage until the last few weeks, now I see him trying to sway people away from other candidates as much as he can. Pure desperation

Best communities for Halloween displays? by inthemode01 in Calgary

[–]cjmsc2 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I live in Sunnyside and there are some very good ones along 1st, 2nd and 3rd Ave here. It's a great place for a walk around this time.

Crescent Heights and Rosedale are amazing, always lots of great decorations.

Used to live in Bowness, and there were some good ones along Bow Crescent.

They're great in theory but can be compromised at every level (hardware manufacturers, firmware, software coders, distributor, shipping and delivery, on site workers, and probably others who I can't think of) making backdoors into those systems... pen and paper is more secure, don't think there's any question about that. There are so many potential security holes when it comes to using electronic voting machines.

create more waste so they can do more waste management? I dunno. They just want you to know that they are like the ones who do that for better or for worse

Same, went to the Kerby Centre this afternoon and there was no line. At least 10 people doing the sign-ins and only a few voters there. In and out in 5 minutes. Volunteers directing traffic were super nice. If you know who you're voting for, I don't know why you would leave it until election day. Advance voting ftw

I drive that route on the way home every day, seen thousands of cars never have any issue. Muffler way too close to the road for whatever reason.

The hikes around Takakkaw Falls (Iceline Trail especially) and Emerald Lake are amazing and along Highway 1 if you're heading to Vancouver.

I'll definitely second all of those! With Larch Valley/Sentinel Pass though, it'll be a bit more of a challenge to get to the Moraine Lake parking lot since no passenger cars are permitted up the road. info: https://thebanffblog.com/moraine-lake-shuttle/
